AudioControl D-6.1200 6-Channel Car Amplifier with Digital Signal Processing

I’m blown away by how this brought my system to life, I’m hearing notes in the music I didn’t even know were there before. I’ve been doing installs 30yrs and this sounds better than any brand I’ve used by miles, I’m talking top of the line kicker, Fosgate, JL audio, none of them compare. The sound quality from this amplifier is exceptional, I’m using in 6 channel configuration for mids and highs, with pass through for my sub amp. Mids and highs are crystal clear, and very loud. The pass through for the sub is next level, the DSP really brings it to life, and it’s considerably louder than when I had running through the LC5 pro. If you appreciate sound quality, I can’t recommend this amp enough, it might be a little pricey if you’re just looking for some loud bass, but worth the money hands down. Versatility is fantastic too, you can assign the channels in pairs or bridged mono with different EQ, and crossover settings for each pair. This really comes in handy when you have a small dash speaker, and 6.5” for doors, you really get the full potential out of every set of speakers.

This is a great amp. Powerful and clean. The DSP options are numerous. The signal quality from this unit is equally great. It also doesnt require a remote wire to turn on which is handy in some installs. If you take your time you can really improve your sound quality with this amp. Highly reccomended and shipping was fast.

Breakdown: Sound quality: 4.5/5 Ease of wiring/setup: 5/5 Software use: 4/5 Ease of achieving desired sound/software features : 2.5/5 Details: This unit was incredibly easy and straight forward to wire in. I used high level inputs from speaker wires, and summed my front dash, front doors, and rear doors to create a full signal. Then sent back to front dash, front doors, and rear doors. Then ran a subwoofer off of the subwoofer pre amp line out. When I first powered it up, I was debated taking it out and returning…. Sound quality is great now, but it took a while to get there. Despite several reviews, the audio control software is very easy to use and control. Changing settings are very intuitive, and there are several videos online on how to work the program. The main reason I went with this instead of the Helix, is because I run a Mac which is incompatible with the Helix. However, achieving the sound quality was difficult as a DIYer without all of the pro tools or experience. You will need to spend a lot of time reading about audio tuning and watching videos. However here is a little guide to help. You will need to sum your inputs, set your pass filters, set time delays, and gains of each channel. Then you will play pink noise, and flatten out the equalized signal out of the factory amp. To get an accurate sound delay, you will take the measurements from the center of each speaker to where the driver head is. Record these and input in the software. Next, set the pass filters on each of your speakers. There is an electronic RTA that measures the RTA of the sound the signal - not a mic measuring the actual sound. For this use pink noise. This step was fairly easy given the “auto” function that will give you a fairly flat sound profile, then you can make your final adjustments. You will need to do this for each individual output channel. Once you do this, set your gains using pink noise. Set stereo to 80% of max, and adjust gains from software. Now repeat flattening your sound profile. Next, you’re ready to set your EQ. Don’t do like I did and try to do it by ear. Look up an RTA curve like the JBL curve and match it. Do this with an actual RTA, not the signal based one off of your unit. You can download a decent one on your phone and buy a cheap mic that will give you great results. This will give you a solid starting point, where you can then tune by ear to actual music. Cost of the unit wasn’t bad considering I would have needed to run an LC7i, and two separate amps to power my 6 interior speakers. It also allows you to power 4 speakers and a subwoofer. Very compatible setup. Audio control could have improved this experience by having a mic input in their software and a sine wave to make a stand alone unit and software. A better auto tune would be nice too. Especially if it included a few popular RTA tuning curves, then EQ presets built around this. It took about 6 hours to tune. I will likely put another couple of hours in as It’s still not perfect, but it sounds incredible. Way better than factory with the ability to control and tune every channel individually. Also, much louder and cleaner sound!
