Public Finance and Public Policy

Thorough and Helpful; Rambles at times
Gruber's text is well-written and relevant. Admittedly not as concise as it could be, as a student I didn't mind the length at some portions because things were thoroughly explained. As economics texts go, this is probably the least "dry" I've encountered.Gruber uses relevant and concise examples to illustrate points and inserts some humor to keep the read a little easier. As another reviewer noted, this text can ramble on a bit much at times, but intelligent skimming through use of subtitles and keywords can avoid that. The problems are good, but at times can be more confusing than necessary.

Math Review Recommended Before Reading This Book or Taking Public Finance
It's a required text from the Public Admin master level class. The book is generally organized; however, I would recommend reviewing some of the algebra and calculus knowledge before taking the Public Finance class or reading this book. Otherwise, you may have to spend quite some time to understand the math concepts there.

Good book
This is a very good book for understanding the policy aspects of public finance. It is written in a way that makes it interesting and not too dry (mostly), for non finance people.
