Buy two, just in case you tear the first one!
I installed this with the oil pan gasket and the high flow oil pump on a 1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0. Might as well do them all if you are wrestling that oil pan off. If you are installing all three do not use the tools (that hold the pan up when starting to install screws) with the oil pan gasket until you are sure that the oil pump and pickup don't keep the pan from sealing right. It's a pain to keep taking off the oil pan with those tabs. I had to use my special hammer to beat the pan so the pump would clear. Look up the videos and you'll see what I mean. I packed the pump with vaseline to help prime it. I'm not sure if it was needed, but better safe than sorry. As soon as I started my jeep the pressure immediately went up to 60 PSI, and has settled to 40 psi at idle (before it would drop to 20 psi at idle). It does go high when you press the pedal, but never above 80 psi because of the relief valve. The pump is well made. There is a tight tolerance to install the pickup tube. I put the pickup in the freezer overnight to shrink it. Then you can use a wrench that fits above the collar and hit the wrench with a hammer to install it. You might also have to slightly bend the pickup to allow the oil pan to fully seal. Good lubrication and no oil leaks!

Good gasket
1996 Jeel Cherokee. Fel Pro never fails. Great product and fit perfectly. Advice: Lube with oil to insert ariund crank shaft. Easier to guide and push in. N leaks anymore.

Good replacement
Old one was completely done for. Old seal is easier to remove with the engine warm. Mine was cold but I used a heat gun to warm it up (video is of old)

Take your time as it sucks to replace this multiple times because it wasn't done ...
Worked, hasn't leaked but seal didn't seem to sit fully in channel on the extended wings, they rose a bit and one seemed (eyeball test) to be slightly more extruded on one side than the other but the ultimate test is that it hasn't leaked yet although I have not put many miles on it yet. My last two seals set by my former mechanic both failed and I ended up just doing it myself since they weren't cleaning the rear main properly and it kept leaking. Keys to keep in mind, use sealant on the joints and in the corners. be very meticulous when cleaning the bearing cap and channel in the block. they need to be cleaned well. I used a syringe with dish soap to insert the top seal in the block. just inject into the hole until it comes out the other side, use a horn as a guide and push it right on in. Works every time. Be careful on the seal and use a horn so you don't cut the seal. I had two seals on hand just in case as my local store doesn't carry them. For the time it takes to replace this that's a cheap insurance plan. I cleaned both mating surfaces off and added a drop of sealant on each side to help bond the seal together and torqued it to spec. Take your time as it sucks to replace this multiple times because it wasn't done correctly and people tend to cut corners on long projects. For what you are doing its up there with replacing seals on a D30 as far as steps to do a simple task. Don't make yourself have to do it twice.

Fit 1994 Jeep YJ 4.0
The process for changing this seal is a PITA for those who have done it before. Take your time and ensure you have a clean area to perform this job. Go to the internet and watch some videos of how to do this job and not how to do this job. I swear there are some videos out there on the internet made by people who have no business to ever hold a screwdriver in their hands. Look for videos that look like they are doing a quality job and you should have no problems. Biggest tip I can offer is to pay attention to the RTV placement and cure times before adding oil and operating the engine.

Good quality product!
The FELPRO gaskets & seals are just good quality - simple! I bought this seal because the seal in another kit was just terrible. After trying to use the seal, I decided to wait a day or 2 for the FELPRO seal, and I was not disappointed! It was a far better quality seal, and should be a standard for all Jeep owners replacing the rear main oil seal!
