Excellent introduction to laser engraving/cutting
So far, I love this machine - now that it is put together. Assembly and setup, while not "hard", are not well supported with the enclosed instructions. Again, we can thank those who came before for sharing their knowledge and experience on YouTube.I have engraved and cut (thickest 3/8") various thicknesses of plywood and hardwood. I recommended having on hand a bunch of scrap that matches your desired finished product to dial in your best speed and power settings. You can find tables and suggestions on the internet, but exploring for yourself will help you get the feel of the machine - and, of course, once you find the right setting write it down.Be selective with your plywood. There is darkspot at the top of the engraving in the attached photo. The plywood had a coating on the surface that darkened with soot.I found it helpful to invest in an air pump for air assist. It really makes a difference especially when cutting by not letting soot build up and stain the edges of the cut. My Ortur came with all air assist parts except the pump. I am using an air mattress inflator, but there are a lot of choices out there. With some trial and lots of error, I was able to engrave some glass stemware for my daughter's wedding. Fortunately, practice glassware is inexpensive at your local dollar store. As others have noted, the air tube and laser power cord are not well supported. Every once and awhile they would get caught under the x-axis wheels. I loosely zip tied both to the x-axis motor. For me, I think Lightburn software was a good purchase. Very flexible, but, again, you'll be getting any support material from the internet. There is a learning curve, but practice and research will soon yield beautiful results.

Not worth the money
I have had nothing but problems with this laser. Every time I try to do a project the machine starts acting up. First the alarm would go off constantly. Then when I got that figured out it would then home itself past the boundaries. Now It will not respond at all. I have watched numerous YouTube videos which some are helpful some are not. I wish I would have never bought this machine

Good night not get the software to work either on a PC or an apple
I tried everything in my ability to get this machine to work and it would not happen! From other reviews this is a great machine, so maybe it’s not being a techy person.

Incredible and easy to use engraver/cutter
I've been 3D printing for quite a while. But I've always wanted to get into laser cutting and engraving. When I had an opportunity to pick this up, I jumped at the chance. This laser cutter comes with almost everything I needed to get started. It even came with materials to try out and safety gear. The only things I needed to add were my laptop and a cutting surface. A lot of experts recommended a waste board or a honeycomb surface. I chose to pick up a honeycomb cutting surface.Since this was my first laser cutter, it took me a while to get this assembled. I think it took me around two hours. If I had to do it again, it would take me 40 minutes at most. A lot of the setup time was due to me assembling things backward and having to redo steps. My next challenge was to find a suitable place to run this. I initially thought I could run it on my stove, but the laser cutter was too large. So I set it up on a large folding table outside. This was the perfect setup as it gave me plenty of room for the machine and my laptop.Installing the drivers and burning software was easy. I chose to go with Lightburn since I heard Lightburn is user-friendly. Lightburn was able to detect my machine and the setup was simple. For my first test, I decided to engrave a picture of one of my cats on one of the sample wood pieces. The laser comes with a "focusing" arm that is exactly the length needed to focus the laser. I just put the arm down and lowered the laser until it touched the material. I then raised the arm and I was good to go. Even though the sample wood piece was small, the picture looked really good. After that, I tried cutting out some shapes. I looked at the settings on the Ortur website to figure out the speed and number of passes. I entered those numbers in, tried it out, and it cut perfectly. I was very impressed.I'm so glad I ordered this machine. It is user-friendly and perfect for a beginner like me. Plus it is a lot less expensive than a CO2 machine. I can't wait to use this to create parts for my arcade machine!

Nice beginner level laser engraver, wish they included hardcopy instructions
I was not happy to discover that the assembly instructions were online and that while this was set up for air assist, there was no compressor included, so you basically have to set up everything yourself. I do really like that the wiring is in a protective harness, which I wish my AtomStack had. Ortur also offers an extension kit (https://www.amazon.com/Engraver-Expansion-Extension-Engraving-Expanded/dp/B0B125V7H1)that greatly expands the size of the items you can work with. This comes with goggles, which I would not trust. For my AtomStack, I use glasses that cover 455±5nm OD5+ according to the specifications and the user guide. Seeing many warnings to not use cheap glasses, we went with a known brand: Eagle Pair 190-540nm OD6 Slip Over Laser Safety Goggles from Survival Laser, which have 50% VLT. (OD6 is a step up from OD5.) If you don’t wear glasses, get the non-slip-over kind. I need to double-check, but I think these will also be the range needed for this Ortur laser.Overall, this is a decent beginner laser, but I really wish they included an instruction manual as a printed booklet with the laser itself. As the parent of kiddos with autism, there are causes near and dear to my heart.
