BRCAF115 Cutler Hammer AFCI Circuit Breaker

Works as it should.

These AFCI BR 15amp breakers aren't easy to come by, and aren't cheap, especially if you purchase them via an electrical store. I once got quoted $100 per breaker! This breaker not only worked as advertised, but saved me a lot of money too. Very happy with how it arrived in its box but instructions were useful too. Me and my father changed out the old breakers due to a recent basement conversion what by code, now requires AFCI type. So that we did. Problem now resolved and township all signed off. Thanks to Eaton Corp. for these breakers for sale. Saved me a ton!

The item was as described: new, packaged well, and a near exact match to my existing breakers. My existing breakers are all 6 years old; this one was identical in appearance but seemed to be slightly "looser" when installed than the existing breakers, perhaps the result of a minor production difference. Not a big deal in the end as the breaker did seat solidly and worked perfectly. Installation was easy: 1) put on rubber tipped gloves; 2) turned off main power (using main breaker -- in my situation, the breaker was located in a panel on the exterior wall of my home, next to the electric meter); 3) removed breaker box cover to expose all wires; 4) located problem breaker; 5) unscrewed retaining screws to wires and disconnected wires to breaker, noting their location; 6) removed breaker from its retaining holder; 7) removed new breaker from box and uncoiled white wire; 8) connected white wire to location where prior white wire was mounted; 9) connected electric feed wires; 10) "seated" new breaker in the retaining holder; 11) final check on tightness of connections of wires; 12) install breaker box cover; 13) turned main power back on.

These worked great but when installing I noticed the electricians from our builder used a near identical version that included a connection to the neutral bar running the length of the box. Instead for these ones, I had to run the white pigtail to the neutral clampdown bar, which adds clutter to the box and takes extra time to install. Takeaway - if your box has the neutral bar next to the red and black bars under the breakers, look for the other similar breakers. (Other than this metal connection to neutral, they are visibly identical)

This time was correct product. Previous item received from this seller was a Eaton packaging screw up where Eaton / Cutler Hammar sealed a 20 amp unit in a clearly labeled 15 amp package. No fault of seller. Installed correct 15 amp arc fault breaker, tested and working properly.

These look refurbished when you get them. I'm not an electrician, so I wasn't expecting that, but they are new I compared them against other sources. And it worked like a charm, the one that came with our new house tripped every now and then, and it just kept getting worse. But this one seems to have done the trick. No more tripping.

Bought this as the old AFCI was fault tripping on our treadmill. I have not had another trip since installing it. One item that I had an issue with on the installation was that the hot and common were switch between the old one an new breakers.

I waited a while after installation to do a review. It works perfectly. I was having intermittent tripping of the old breaker. Installed this one as an exact replacement and the problem was solved. Installation was very easy.
