As someone who used to diagnose humans for a living, I can confirm this switch is named exactly like something you’d find buried in a blood test. But once you get past the biomarker‑grade naming, it’s a genuinely excellent bit of kit. Real‑World Performance It’s powering four zyxel access points in my house without even raising its heart rate. No flickering, no whining, no ports behaving like they’re staging their own junior doctor strike. Just stable PoE delivery from a device that actually turns up for its shift. Nebula Integration This is where it becomes addictive. Being able to: • reboot APs remotely • set per‑port rules, speed limits, VLANs etc • check PoE budget • supervise your network like a consultant doing a calm ward round …is deeply satisfying. PoE Budget Visibility You can see exactly how much power you’re using, which is more transparency than most rota coordinators ever managed. The Best Bit It just works. Quietly. Sensibly. And it takes a surprising amount of strain off the router, like bringing in a locum who actually knows what they’re doing. Diagnosis Odd name, excellent switch. If you want something that integrates with Nebula, powers multiple APs without drama, and behaves like a responsible adult in your network, this is a brilliant addition.

Note: I received this product as part of the Amazon Vine programme, in return for an honest and unbiased review. The opinions expressed below are my own and based on real-world use of the product. I haven’t tested this switch particularly heavily, largely because my networking setup is already deeply embedded within the Unifi ecosystem, but I have used it enough to get a good feel for what it can do. First impressions out of the box are very positive. The metal casing feels substantial and very well put together, and test-fitting some spare cables into the ports saw all of them seat securely with a reassuring clunk. One frustrating decision from Zyxel was shipping the switch management IP set to 192.168.1.1 by default. In my case this immediately conflicted with my Unifi gateway setup. Changing the IP was straightforward enough and not especially fiddly, but it is the sort of avoidable annoyance that sours the experience slightly. I’d genuinely love to see the numbers on how many buyers introduce a new switch into an already established network versus building a network from scratch around it. I suspect most users are not starting from zero, and anyone already using 192.168.1.1 on their gateway will run into the same problem I did. Once reconfigured, though, the switch integrated cleanly into the wider network. It appeared correctly within the Unifi client list, and devices connected through it were also visible without issue. The gigabit ports performed exactly as expected and connectivity remained completely stable throughout testing. I intended to criticise the lack of 2.5GbE and/or SFP+ ports, but that would be somewhat unfair at this price point. Zyxel does offer those features further up the product stack, and the segmentation makes perfect sense. PoE performance was also absolutely fine during testing, powering a Zyxel NWA50BE PRO access point without instability or power-related issues. I have completely avoided Nebula cloud management. Even if this switch were deployed more seriously, I personally would be unlikely to benefit much from those features because my existing setup already covers them. I also find the interface a little counter-intuitive. It is powerful though, and I can see the appeal for those already invested in Nebula and wanting everything under one roof - it is no different to how I view Unifi. It is also a good introduction for anyone new to cloud-based management who wants a straightforward device with which to start their journey. To summarise, this is a solid switch, but you do need to compare it carefully against your actual requirements: - If you simply want an unmanaged switch, this is the wrong product entirely. There are considerably cheaper options available, including models with metal casings and PoE+ support. - If you only want local management, it may still be somewhat overkill. You do get QoS, VLANs and other useful features, but part of the price is clearly going toward cloud capability that you may never use. - If you want maximum flexibility, with strong monitoring and configuration options regardless of location, this could be an excellent fit. Reliable, performant networking equipment should quietly disappear into the background and simply do its job. Unless, of course, you want to focus on it using the management tools; in which case, this gives you plenty to work with.

Arrived as described, as pictured, safe and sound. This switch works well and is very well made, a heavy item in an all metal housing and it also sports a full set of activity LED’s which is always nice to see. In the box you get the switch itself as well as an external DC power supply – take note, this does not use an internal power supply. This works well, out of the box it’s configured to work as a standard switch without any configuration required. A switch like this would be ideal for use with either POE access points or POE CCTV cameras – any application that requires high reliability or dependency being a Zyxel product it should hold up well in this regard. I have not used any of the management features supported on this such as VLAN/QoS etc but they are there and are handy to have if that’s what you need – for me, this is a decent upgrade to a quality POE switch for my CCTV setup. As a side note, this is quite good value, £59 at the point of reviewing for an 8 port managed POE+ switch. Highly recommended.

This is a well-constructed switch. The body is solid metal and feels very robust, and it is easy to find and configure the switch using the ZON utility and via a web browser. Out of the box, the switch is configured as an 8-port hub, so adding this is an easy way to add extra network capacity. Thiis is the first switch that I have used that has PoE capabilities (there is an extra LED indicator on each socket to show when this is active), and I now have plans to power a web camera with this feature. All the LAN ports are Gigabit speed, so very fast. It supports all sorts of network functionality (lot's of acronyms of which I understand about half 😐), but the one feature that I am very pleased with is the VLAN capabilities that allow me to split my network into different protected areas (so a guest can't get access to my NAS drive, for instance). Even better is I can extend the VLANs already programmed into my existing Zyxel switch into this switch, so integration is quite seamless. And, I really like that there is no fan to add to the background noise. The networking capabilities are probably overkill for a lot of home users, but if you need some of the features offered (VLAN, PoE etc.), then this is an excellent bit of professional kit at a very reasonable price. Recommended!

Having used networking equipment from this brand previously, I went into this order with fairly high expectations, and it’s safe to say it delivered across the board. Setup was straightforward, performance has been rock solid, and it strikes an excellent balance between usability and advanced features. Upon the initial unboxing the quality is noticeable straight away. It feels sturdy and well put together, and comes with a 55v DC adapter with a good quality UK 3-pin to C13 power cable included, meeting all BS1363 requirements. In terms of operation, this is a fan-less device, so is completely silent if you’re right next to it in a quiet room, making this ideal for both office floor and home use. More importantly, it runs cool even under load. I’ve had multiple devices powered via PoE with sustained traffic across all ports, and it’s remained well within comfortable temperature ranges for a switch of this type. The PoE power delivery is another strong point. It’s capable of powering a wide range of devices, such as IP cameras, access points, and VoIP phones, with no instability or dropouts. Power allocation is handled intelligently, up to a maximum of 60W across the PoE range, and I’ve had no issues managing multiple PoE devices simultaneously. Whereas some other PoE switches allocate the maximum port load, this switch manages the load with true connected requirements, so is capable of utilising more ports for this purpose. The web interface is where this switch really shines for its price point. It’s feature-rich without being overwhelming for network engineers, although may be quite advanced for some home users, offering VLAN configuration, QoS, link aggregation, and traffic monitoring, among others. Everything is laid out clearly, and it’s accessible enough for someone with moderate networking knowledge while still offering the depth more advanced users will appreciate. The interface is responsive and hasn’t shown any quirks or lag during use. I’ve included a few screenshots to give an idea of the switch management software layout, masking some details for obvious reasons. Performance-wise, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a gigabit switch—consistent throughput across all ports with no bottlenecks observed in normal operation. Stability has been flawless so far, with no random reboots or connectivity issues. Overall, this is a highly dependable and well-designed switch that ticks all the right boxes: silent operation, solid thermal performance, robust PoE capabilities, and a genuinely useful management interface. Based on both past experience with the brand and current performance, it’s an easy recommendation for anyone looking to upgrade their network infrastructure. The included firmware will need an initial upgrade as the installed version is v4.70(ACAQ.4) from October 2024, and the latest at the time of writing this review being v4.70(ACAQ.6) from 19th January 2026.

The first thing you notice is the weight of the box. A good proportion of that weight is the very substantial power brick and full sized cable and plug. Presumably due to it being a PoE Switch where it needs to send power up to 60 Watts between the four PoE ports. We are not using these just yet, but I am building up my CCTV kit where this Switch will be essential. The quality of the Switch box itself is as good as the other ZYXEL switch box I already own. The build quality is fantastic and both units are a bit more hefty than other switch boxes due to the quality electronics inside. Metal clad box with great quality port sockets. No cheap plastic anywhere. It is hardly surprising that ZYXEL are renowned in the commercial industry such as offices, shops and hotels. Also has the optional Nebula Cloud function which is a paid for service where the ports can be controlled and configured individually. Great for hotels I can imagine. Not really much use in a home though. Before I paid for my first ZYXEL kit, I did a lot of research before deciding on this brand and I do not think I am now going to use anything else. OUTSTANDING!
