Works like a charm!
This colorimeter is very impressive! As a professional painting contractor, finding the right color is super important for my clients. This device helped my client choose a color within minutes after scanning a preexisting cabinet she wanted to match, and it’s pretty accurate with the color matching. Definitely recommend if you want to be more professional, efficient, and prestigious!

Much better than the Color Muse 1
I bought this to replace my Color Muse 1, which could not accurately identify colors. But this Color Muse 2 is able to identify 7 out of 7 of my Valspar color patches and 11 out of 12 Glidden color patches with "excellent" matches. But the correct match is not always the top match. For best results you have to filter based on the brand of card/paint you are testing. But when filtering for Glidden, it still misidentified Orange Pekoe as Kiva Glow, giving Kiva Glow an "excellent" match and Orange Pekoe only a "good" match.Another thing that could be improved is the documentation, especially the app settings. Do any of the settings affect calibration and color matching, and if so, what are the correct settings? E.g., Standard Illuminant always defaults to D65 when I connect to a new device, but inside settings it says D50 is supposed to be the default, and on Variable's web site it says that calibration is done with D50. I noticed that changing these settings affect the RGB values that are displayed, but so far the settings do not appear to change the color matches. So it's unclear what I'm supposed to change the settings to and what they actually do. In the app it just gives you a brief theoretical definition of the setting, but doesn't tell you how it actually affects color matching. Basically, as a consumer, I just want to know which settings will give me the most accurate color matches, and having a bunch of poorly documented settings may or may not affect color matching is confusing.

Good color matching across lighting types
Greatly simplifies color matching when doing leather repairs. I’m able to get a much better match than doing the match by eye. When I match by eye the match looks perfect when I do it but then it’s never quite right when the light changes from outdoor to indoor, for example, but when I use the color muse the match looks great even when the light changes.

Will not give good matches to most colors.
Has been able to match a color to a US manufacturer about 50% of the time. The rest of the time you can see the indication that it sees the color but can’t give any suggestions at all. If you pay the 9.99 / month for the Pantone feature it will tell you which Pantone color (a European company) but will not give you any conversion to US suppliers. Therefore it is useless.

Color muse
I love this gadget. I wish I had purchased it a long time ago. It's so easy to use. It will give you several options of the paint color you need information on. So worth the money.

Several Issues
As a painter, I considered this a nice color-matching scanner until it died 4 months after purchase. When it did work, here are some observations: It claims to read the sheen as well as the color. Not a big deal, but its ability to sense the sheen is not accurate. Flat surfaces would often show as High Gloss while semi-gloss surfaces might read as flat. However, what is most troubling beyond the fact that this unit only lasted several months, was the fact that the customer service is non existent. I tried using their live chat service, but I would never get someone on the other end. I would send emails with no response. Finally, when initially setting up the app, it asked for the defaults for paint brands that I like to include (nice feature), but the problem is that I could not find how to change the default settings to alter that. It allows you to edit the selections, but it becomes a pain when you have to do that every time you use the app. It should be user-friendly to allow you to change the default settings instead of having to do it every time you use the app. Overall, there was no customer service to address these issues.

One Click (well perhaps more than but felt like) Fix for Apt Walls
Living an apt with chalky mass painted walls, the flat-dusty finish shows a huge mark everytime something comes in substantial contact so I bought some touchup paint using the Muse 2. Some time back I pointed it at the wall in a few places and it said the same thing so went on to browse though the matches. After that I got the part number on home depot by finding the brand returned in the app and then the paint part number. Clicked purchase with a brush. Finally Im around to this and the match was beyond perfect, it got the color which doesnt seem too hard for a camera .. but it got the finish perfectly as well. Yeah the complex used a standard mass produced paint and color but Im not a painter and for $110 this device and software solved the problem. Oh and it wasnt much effort to set it up either. Finally, I dont know where it is anymore so it may be lost forever and I dont care because it was worth it to make this place whole again. If it only worked once Im happy (dont worry it is in a tool bag somewhere) I do see others posting that they thought the "closest matches" in paint brands was removed from the app but the historical scan shows those matches, perhaps others have encountered an odd paint color which has no pre-mixed equivalent?
