Chamberlain CIGCWC Gateway - The Perfect Solution to My Morning Paranoia
I received this today. This device works absolutely flawlessly. I bought the device because I'm paranoid. I'm constantly rushing out the door in the morning (teenagers in the morning are stressful) due to having a kid who does everything last minute. It's like diffusing a bomb and clipping the right wire with 1 second left. Anyway, I digress. This has caused me to, on occasion, leave the garage door open and have to drive back from the office to shut it. Usually, it's actually closed, however, probably 2 out of 10 times I've driven back, it was actually left open. That's enough for me to worry. This device is basically a gateway that allows you to send commands to your garage door via your local network IP. Chamberlain also provides an Internet gateway that communicates with your local gateway so you can access your garage door through your browser. Simple and convenient. The local gateway can be connected through your router, a wireless extender with a LAN port, or an Ethernet hub. I connected mine through the router but may move it to the extender to reduce clutter. Here's a breakdown of what I think about the CIGCWC gateway: A. Installation - This literally took approximately 10 minutes or less (including unboxing) total using the following steps: 1. Remove existing wall control unit in your garage. I didn't unplug anything. All you need is a Philips head screwdriver. 1 min. 2. Install the new wall control unit. This involves hooking-up a white and a red wire and attaching the unit to the wall. Test the new wall control unit. It should work just like the old one without having to do anything else. 1 min. 3. Take the gateway, and, using your phone, take a picture of the serial number on the unit. You'll need this later. 30 sec. 4. Use the included Ethernet cable to establish a wired connection to your router. 10 sec. 5. Use the included power adapter to plug the gateway into your wall outlet. 5 secs. 6. Open a browser window on your computer and navigate to [...] and create an account. The site has instructions. Simply follow them. 2 mins. 7. Check your email and verify your account. 30 sec. 8. Log in to your account at [...] and add the gateway to your account using the serial number you took a picture of in step #3. There are steps on the website. Once added, use the web interface to open and close the garage door. It should work without you having to do anything else. 1 min. 9. Download the MyQ app to your mobile devices (either using the link on the website or directly from your device using either Google Play for Android or the Apple App Store for Apple devices), install, and log in using the same account you used when you initially setup your account in step #6. I installed mine on 3 Android devices. 2 phones and 1 tablet. This only took about 2 mins per device since I just pushed the app to all devices using the web interface instead of downloading the app individually for each device. 10. Test each of your mobile devices using the MyQ app to ensure that you can open and close the garage door. That's it. From there, you can set all sorts of rules to run such as what you would want your garage door to do in case you left it open. You can even set push notifications that will notify when any of the set events occurs. I set mine to notify me if the garage door is left open for more than 10 mins. If you have an older garage door opener like I do, and you want to add remote access, this device will do the trick. I got mine on sale for $68.50 on Amazon and it was worth every penny. Highly-recommended.

No More Worrying About if I Closed the Garage Door
This product works exactly as I expected and I know it will save me some worry. In the past, I've had to turn my car around after leaving home because I couldn't remember if I closed the garage door . After installing this product, that will no longer be a problem. The garage door opener interfaces with the Chamberlain app on my iPhone, so if I ever wonder if I left the door open, I can log in, verify and open or close it if necessary. The device also interfaces with the Alarm.com system and app so I was able to easily integrate it into my alarm system and have only one place to manage everything. I can also setup alerts in either app to notify me if the garage door has been left open for a certain period of time as well as notify me when the door opens and closes in general. Installation was very simple. To install the gateway, I only had to plug it into an electrical outlet and plug it into my router via the the cat5 cable that is included in the packaging. There were no configuration items to setup other than registering the serial number into the chamberlain app. Installing the garage door opener controller was also very simple. It works seamlessly with my LiftMaster garage door opener. To my understanding they are the same company anyway, but the button also states that it should work with most major brands. To install the controller, I removed the old one by unscrewing it from the wall and removing the two low voltage wires (1 red, 1 white). Then I replaced it with the new panel, same wires, same configuration. FYI, the controller does not come with junction box screws so I had to reuse the ones from the old controller. After connecting the wires and screwing it back into the wall, the open and close door button worked right away. The garage door opener controller has the standard features, motion activated lights, hold button, etc. It also has a "TimeToClose" feature to automatically close the garage door after a few minutes of your choosing. All in all, I was able to set everything up in less than an hour. Now I can login and view the status of the garage door, open and close it remotely, and receive alerts if its been left open for longer than the time limit I set. I love the device and have already recommended it to several friends and co-workers.

Technology meets piece of mind
My household has historically had problems leaving the garage door open when we leave the house. More times than I can count, I myself have turned around a block or two from the house to double check the door was down. Our garage door opener is a Chamberlain about 5 years old. I remember hearing a couple years after we got our opener that new openers were now coming with pre-installed internet connectivity. But at that time the cost of those new openers was almost triple what we paid for our current opener, too much to justify scrapping our perfectly good opener. Fast forward a couple more years, I was searching Amazon to see if the price of those built-in internet openers had come down in price yet when I stumbled upon this Chamberlain connectivity kit. I am SO glad I did. I ordered this almost immediately and thanks to my Prime Membership, it was here 2 days after I ordered it. I was surprised at how easy the installation of the wall mounted button was. That literally took me less than 5 minutes to take the old one down and put the new one up. Next on to the connecting of the gateway to my wireless router. I had an extra port available on my wireless router so connecting it was no problem. If you don't have an open port you can get a 5 port ethernet switch here on Amazon for cheap. Now on to the setting up of the online account. This was the part that definitely took the longest. I think it took me a couple try to get our garage door to register and show up. I think the first time I tried, I being the computer literate person I am, didn't really read the instructions and just went straight to doing what I thought was right. Second try I followed the steps in the instructions because apparently the order in which you add devices in your online account matters. Anyways, start to finish install was no more than 20 minutes. AMAZING! Works like a charm! After I got the online account setup, I downloaded the app for our Android smartphones, signed in the username and password and presto, there was my garage door showing closed for 4 minutes. I then went out to the driveway and opened and closed the garage door at least 3 times from my app in pure amazement that here we are in 2013 and I can control my garage door with my phone! I have read several reviews that state app failure or issues with logging or loading activity. I personally, have had no issues with any of this. Every time I have logged into the app on my phone, I can log in successfully and the door status shows with no problems. We have not used the feature to have the door auto-close after the 1, 5 or 10 minute options. Just last week I used my app from work to let my sister in to our house to pickup some items we had in our refrigerator for her. She was amazed that like magic the door went up and like magic the door went down! At least once a week when I am the last one leaving the house I get several blocks away and cannot distinctly remember if I closed the garage door or not. So thankful to have my handy, dandy Chamberlain MyQ app to check and put my mind at ease that yes the door was down. The one con that we all do unanimously do notice is the motion detector for the interior garage light is not nearly as sensitive as the motion sensor on our previous wall control panel. The new motion detector does work however previously we could be all the way on the complete other side of the garage and the motion detector would pick up our movement. Now the sensor only detects movement within about 10 feet of the wall unit. Slightly disappointing but if a person previously had no motion controlled light in their garage than this would not even be noticed. This is the only reason for the 4 stars because I know Chamberlain has a more sensitive motion detector because I own it, not sure why they would downgrade something like that in newer models. Overall, we have had this product now for almost 5 months with no issues. It was a great item purchase for a great price. I have recommended this to several people, probably a more than once in those first couple weeks we had it installed. Thank you Chamberlain for making an affordable item to add on to older models that did not have this MyQ technology pre-installed. *****UPDATE 12/18/14***** We have now had this item installed for almost 18 months now and still as in love with it as we were on the first day. Have had maybe 1 or 2 instances where the android app would not let us log in but when that happened i just logged in through my desktop computer at work with no issue. Those glitches were easily attributable to app updates or maybe even network connectivity. The app itself is far less glitchy than many major social media apps on the market today that I'm sure almost everyone uses. So in my book, the app works great, has a simple interface and does exactly what it should. One thing I did notice some other reviewers mention was that the app notifications were delayed. I did notice this for me occasionally but in my case my phone is set to shut my data off when the screen goes off so I am not wasting data. When I am somewhere connected to wifi (like the office) there is no delay on app notifications. I suspect that anyone that complains app notifications are delayed on their phone, check their data settings as the delay is likely linked to the phone's data settings. Never had a delay in email notifications ever. Only other time we have not been able to access the gateway was when our home internet was being very spotty and would drop our connection from time to time, which is in no way Chamberlain's issue so I can confidently say that after 18 months with this product installed we have had ZERO issues with the gateway and wall receiver. Still one of our best purchases we have ever made (AND under $100!) and we still recommend this product over and over again.

Did you close your garage door? Well did you? Do you feel lucky?
I hate mornings. I hate hate hate mornings. I really HATE mornings. On a good day, I manage to wake up, groom and get out the door with a cup of coffee and the disposition of Jack Lemmon. On a great day I remember that I also have children and they need to be dressed, fed, packed and on the school bus. Maybe you can related, but imagine where closing the garage door falls into my category of โmust doโ activities. It is if my brain, before 10 AM in the morning, can only remember to do 3 things and letโs face itโฆ No one wants to see me naked at work. At least once a week I am half way through my coffee and a third of the way to work, stuck behind some school bus that needs to stop at every street because for the love of God we canโt allow our children to walk more than 100 feet from their house to catch the bus when the realization slowly starts to take overโฆ. โDid I close my garage door? Well did I? Do I feel lucky?โ For the next few minutes I go through the rationalization of deciding between living the rest of the day with a paranoid delusion that someone will steal my lawnmower gas can for the 3rd time or turning around to make sure the garage door is down. But no longer! This device and the handy โ dandy iPhone app that goes with it work like a charm. With a simple opening of my app I can see that 99% of the time I close the door. I donโt need to turn around โ I can sit happily growling at the youth of this country as their haggard and weary parents load them onto the school bus as I sit in traffic with the knowledge that my gas can is once again safe. The device was easy to install. You need a screw driver, a six-pack of beer and the actual device. It took about 15 minutes and one beer to do the installation. Unlike other home improvement activities, it did not require a trip to the emergency room. Once installed, the setup was very, very easy. Iโm pretty sure my kids could have done it in half the time. Maybe it was the Facebook break I took to catch up on Farmville. After about 40 minutes and 2 beers I was opening and closing the garage door using my iPhone. I highly recommend this product โ easy to install, easy to use and works flawlessly (as long as you have a working internet connection). The app tells you when your door is open and/or closed, and will tell you how long the door has been in that position. You can open and shut the door from your phone. AWESOME SAUCE!

Works great with older Craftsman Openers
I am using this with my old 2004 vintage Craftsman Garage door opener model #13953914. It is a 1/2HP Belt driver system. Works great is is completely compatible. Mainly posting this as a FYI for those that owns a Craftsman brand. Chamberlain did or still does manufacture Sears & Craftsman models. Few Notes: Very easy to install. MyQ Wall Control panel replaces your existing panel. Two wire connection like original panel, no external power required. Internet Gateway I have plugged directly into my home router. Gateway comes with it's own power cord you need to plug in. Paired up very easy with step by step instructions with pictures on your smart phone using the My Q app you download. My Q panel uses the internal limit switches in your garage door opener to determine if it is open or closed state My Q app is simple, shows a picture of a garage door open or closed. Just tap the door and it will activate. I Nice feature I was not aware of if you try to close an open garage door remotely, the My Q wall control panel beeps for about 7-10 seconds fairly loud and the garage door opener lights will flash. This is a warning to those that may be near the garage door. I didn't know about this feature but it is a nice bonus to alarm people near the door. After the beeping stops, then the garage door will close. When I closed the door using My Q app, I purposely stepped in front of the door safety sensors and they did stop the door and reverse it to the open position. Although the service to remotely open & close is FREE by chamberlain, I also just installed the Revolv Automation hub and wish I could activate the My Q using the Revolv app. I am told by Revolv tech support that they are talking to Chamberlain to allow them to control using their app and unit but Chamberlain is slow to allow and accept them. This is common when building any apps as most manufacturers are Leary to accept other apps. Not sure if this is a liability issue since a garage door can be dangerous if it closes on animals or children. I do hope Chamberlain will test and certify Revolv soon.

Has saved me a LOT of time.
Having ADHD, I have a tendency to get lost in my thoughts when leaving the house for work in the morning (especially before the medicine kicks in, when I remember to take it). As such, I sometimes forget to close my garage door. Since I have a 30 minute commute to work, I lose my entire lunch-hour if I need to go home to check the garage door! Enter this smartphone connectivity kit, which allows me to know for sure whether my garage is open or closed, and close it remotely when I have forgotten. What a time saver! This system was easy to connect to my existing opener (replace the wired button using the existing wires, plug the wireless transceiver into power and network) and I didn't need to add any special sensors. Just don't freak out when you first install it -- it needs about 5 minutes to charge the new button before the lights will come on and start working. The included instructions explain everything. Once connected -- it just "knows" when the door is open or closed, whether it was a handheld opener, HomeLink from a car, a keypad or the button itself. You can download the Chamberlain App for both iPhone and Android -- and it works pretty well. I don't use the "auto-close" functionality, because the last thing I need is to get locked out of the house without my keys, however, if you want to use it you can "suspend" the auto-close when you plan to be outside for a while. If you get easily distracted from one task to another when you were only going to run outside for a few minutes, however, I recommend leaving this feature off. Finally, it is nice to have the lights come on automatically from the motion sensor, but sometimes it doesn't turn on until you are a few strides into the garage -- otherwise, it has a pretty good range and works well. When you close the door remotely, the button beeps loudly several times (about twice a second for about 5-10 seconds) before the door closes, giving someone outside time to stop the close or get clear. You know, just in case your forgot your spouse was home and try lock them out. (Accidentally, of course!) My only issues aren't with this product, but with the Chamberlain app. Specifically, there is no way to change the notification sound played by the app. I want to be notified any time the door opens or closes (easy with the app) since I never know when my wife and I won't be home, but the constant alerts can quickly get annoying during busy times and it would be nice to change the notification to a quieter/simpler noise than my normal notification. There are some android apps that can do this, but nothing for iPhone (where it is pretty easy to add this capability). The second issue is that you need to share your login with anyone else you want to have access -- there is no support to "link" controls to another account. Your parents have one? Another account. Your best friend has it? Another account. I really wish they would spend a little on developing the app more -- allow me to "share" my opener control with other chamberlain accounts, give temporary and/or time-restricted access to a house-sitter for example, like can be found in other automation software. Still, other than these relatively minor annoyances, this opener has been great and I haven't had a single issue with the operation.

More than what I was hoping for, so far.
This thing worked OK for awhile, but today came home and found the garage door wide open, with the wall pad (888LM) non-functioning (no light on, button non-functional). I trouble shot it a bit, and see that the garage door opener works just fine, just the wall control decided to suddenly die and leave my garage wide open. Not happy about that. Looks like the thing is completely dead. Past warranty date, of course. Funny how a spectacular fail can suddenly turn a 5-star review into a 1-star.... My original review.... My wife forgets whether she's closed the garage door. Sometimes miles away from the house, we have to go back to check. I wanted something that would auto-close the door if she forgot. I first looked into various garage-door "add-ons" like Garage Door Butler (which looks like a good product...), etc., but didn't want the hassle of installation, having additional hardware, etc. I decided to try this first, as the installation looked straightforward (it is) and it would replace my wall unit. My Chamberlain garage door opener is a reletively modern one (the control unit had a digital display showing temperature and time), and it proved to be completely compatible. I initially missed not seeing the temp in the garage, but quickly got over not having that--it was just something I used to glance at out of habit--I don't need to know the temp of the garage....) The auto-close feature works extremely well. I appreciate the loud beeping it makes when it prepares to autoclose. I let my (little) kids hear the sound, and told them what it was....just in case. Garage doors have safeguards to prevent little kids being crushed inadvertently, which I never fully trust. The internet connection and iPhone app setup was reletively painless. The online account is free. (Previous reviews say there is a fee. Either they are wrong, or those fees have been dropped. As of this date, December 2013, it is free). I'm not sure I'll use the internet/iphone app functionality much, but it's nice for my wife to be able to check the status of the door, if she fears the auto-close timer had been deactivated or something. Also, it's nice that the app can send you alerts when the door opens, etc. Who knows, I may set up an alert to let me know if the door opens while we're on vacation, etc. The alerts are easy to set up. The iPhone app doesn't completely replace the functionality of a remote garage door opener--it takes a couple seconds to open the app, put in the key code (If you make the app require one), and then wait a few beats as it opens. A few more moments from the time you push the virtual button until the door begins to open. Not a deal-breaker, and not too inconvenient, but more fiddly than just pushing the button clipped to your car visor.... That being said, it's nice for me because my car is parked on the street and my wife doesn't let me keep an opener in the car anyway, in case someone broke into the car to get the opener to enter the house.... So forgive my rambling little review. It seems a good product, and has been reliable (for the 3 days I have used it so far...) As I type this review at work, I just logged onto the iPhone app, and see my garage door has been closed for 6 hours. My wife and kids are home today....I could open the garage door from here and really freak them out. But I wouldn't do that, now would I? ;)

This is really a great product!
We had accidentally left the garage door open too many times. One night the local police woke us up to tell us it was open. So I wanted something to function in the same way our existing big button worked, but give the added capability to automatically close the door when we forget. This fits that need exactly. We can still push the big button to open or close the door as we used to do, and when the door is opened a timer starts that will auto-close the door if it is still open when the timer expires. The timer can be set to 1, 5, or 15 minutes, and a yellow light blinks while the timer is counting down. If we want to disable the timer there is a single button we can press labeled "Hold Open" which will disable the timer until the next time it is closed. Then it reverts back to the timer function the next time the door is opened. There are also a couple very nice additional features. It's WIFI enabled, so I can use the AP on my phone to tell me if it is open or closed, and to change it from open to closed through the AP from anywhere. So we don't need a keypad on the outside to open the door so long as I have my phone, and we can open it remotely when we are not home and someone needs to get in. The other nice extra feature is the motion sensor that turns the light on when movement is detected. Our garage is dark when the door is down, so this feature is handy to automatically turn the lights on when entering from the house door, and solves another less annoying problem we had of accidentally leaving the light on which is manually controlled by a wall switch. Installation was also super easy - just remove existing big push button and replace with this one, attaching the same two wires and mounting in the same place on the wall. Then setup the WIFI unit near the household router, register the WIFI unit to a free online account, get the AP and login to the account, and voila - works great! The WIFI is optional, so if you don't want that, you should just get the switch unit, and not this 2-part kit.

Muy bien producto
Excelente! Funciona de maravilla a pesar de que no estaba en la lista de soportados. El รบnico problema es que dice que estรก cerrado cuando estรก abierto y viceversa y no hay forma de configurarlo en la app.

Great Service
When I first got the product and installed it, it didnt work. The wall control unit wouldn't connect to the gateway. I wrote (they didnt have a toll free 800 number) to Chamberlain with my problem and a very helpful agent walked me through the procedure. When she had confirmed that nothing should be wrong, she sent out a replacement wall control unit. I got the unit and installed it and I still couldn't get it to work so I asked them to call me back again. She did and it was determined that the logic board in the actual door opener was likely at fault. They shipped one out the next day. I installed it and everything works like a charm. Although, they don't have a toll free number their service and support is top notch and the remote gateway is accessible via app. It also integrated seamlessly into my Wink Hub home automation system as advertised.

Setup was Minimal and It Works Simple Easy App Interface.
Setup was minimal and so far it has worked well even for a detached garage with a 2003 Chamberlain branded Security+ door opener (not the Security+ 2.0 one) I installed this because our 8kW DC APS microinverter based solar system on the garage was interfering with the garage door remotes, especially during peak power generation from 11am to 3pm. So far, the receiver has had no problem hearing the open/close signal from the gateway. Using an app to control the garage door has the security benefit that you don't leave the garage door opener visible in the car. (A common crime is to break into a car and open the garage door, which can lead directly to your house). The only little hiccup was that I had to log out of the website and log back in before I could change the "Name" and "Location". Odd. [March 2018] Going strong, works a charm, the app has only had troubles a few times but otherwise it is used more than twice a day on different phones.
