Does it have sharp edges? Does it cut once its assembled?

No. It is just a wood knife. No sharp edges - does not cut anything.

Someone gave my son one of these as a gift, but it was missing the instructions in the pins. How would I go about getting replacement pins?

is there any metal parts at all?

Yes, three, they hold it all together. However, I used toothpicks that I broke down, and wood glued them in, then sanded them a touch.

Is this durable for play once built?

I believe this is a great kit to teach the concepts of making a lock blade knife, and that is can be used for mild careful play. It is wood and will break. I did it with my grandchildren as a craft project. My hope is that they keep the knife as a keepsake of grandpa!
