It want what I thought it was but still helpful!

I bought this to practice my Kana, obviously, but I don't do it "once a day" like it is meant to be used. I just use the pad to see stroke order and then write them out on another sheet of paper. Its good for practice.

This language pad is decent for giving you new words and even some phrases, but is not very useful for beginners. One basic part of learning Japanese is learning the characters, in the case of this book, the hiragana katakana characters. This book, in regard using mnemonics to help with learning those characters is utterly useless and, in many instances, utterly BS. Specifically, the author takes random pictures that may have the sound (or close) of the characters in it and then draw the characters over the picture. Basically, the character they try to link to the image looks NOTHING like the image, not even a little in too many instances. For instance, to learn the katakana character ‘ku’ they give you an image of a raccoon and and then draw the katakana character over it as if we’re supposed to be dumb enough to think we see aspects of a raccoon in that image. What’s the use of mnemonics, if the pictures don’t have any resemblance to the character? For learning hiragana and katakana mnemonics, honestly, the best and only source I’ve found is a YouTube video by JapanesePod101. It’s not perfect, but most of the mnemonics used to learn he characters are excellent. I don’t like the hiragana mnemonic did ‘su’ and felt saying soup straw helped more, but it was more hit than miss. Anyway, I wouldn’t waste my money with this language pad for learning the characters. And there are so many other sites and books, such as the “Let’s Learn Hiragana” and the “Let’s Learn Katakana” books by Yasuko Kosaka Mitamira, that will help youbpractice writing the characters and expanding your vocabulary.

The practice pad is nice, and does well the job it was conceived for but it is not that useful. I mean, you cannot learn one kana per day or you won't be able to read Japanese for ages. More useful instead the Kanji-a-day - that I'd recommend.

Exactly what I needed to help me memorize my Hirigana. I have ADD-ADHD and was having trouble reading Hirigana out of memory alone, but after being able to practice writing out the symbols with the help of this book, I now have them well memorized.
