Build It! Things That Go: Make Supercool Models with Your Favorite LEGO® Parts (Brick Books, 7)

You need the sets the author recommends in order to make this book work well
The problem with this is that we did not have the LEGOs shown in the diagrams. The colors do not match our LEGOS and I was afraid this would just be confusing for our 5 year old grandson (who is obsessed with LEGOS). The idea is a good one. Our grandson likes to follow diagrams and build from the illustrations. But if the blocks and colors do not match up with what the LEGOS he has, it will just be frustrating. The author does list the LEGO sets that work with this book. We did not have those sets, but have hundreds of LEGOS so I thought we would be OK. But the colors are problematic for our sets. So we returned this book. For those who have the sets used in the book, this would be a 5 star item.

Easy to follow instruction book with varied subjects.
Very easy to follow piece by piece instructions for making several models of transport. Could be more models if they didn't make copies of the same models just in different colors. My 5 year old grandson loves the book and finds it fairly easy to follow with just a little guidance. Will probably be purchasing some of the other books in the series.

Great directions
I bought this for my 4 1/2 yr old great-grandson. We like to build things together. The directions are easy to follow- I sometimes have to help him identify a piece but generally he can find it on his own. The directions show the color of the piece and where to place it as you're constructing. We love the book and are checking out some of the others in the "Build-It" set.

Great for kids!
My kids love these lego build it books. They are able to use the bricks we already have. I haven't come across a piece in this book, that we don't have. Hours of fun!

Images on book cover not in actual book!!
We got the Things that Go book. Extremely misleading as none of the pictures on the front of the book are actually inside the book!!! I've included a picture of the table of contents. Not one thing with wheels! There is a variety of things to build and directions are simple and clear but don't call the book things that go when less than 20% of the book is actually transportation items.

Large investment in Lego bricks needed
I bought this book for my 5 year old grandson and he loved the pictures but was unable to build any of the models using his existing bricks, which was very disappointing. On the back of the book it tells you that you need 3 sets: Lego Classic 10695, Architecture Studio 21050 and Lego Education Wheels set 4596357 to build all the models. Total cost for these is around £400. A big expense just to be able to use the book! Instead I ordered the pieces needed from the Lego 'pick a brick' site. Even so, it cost £110 to get the addition pieces required. It took 2-3 weeks to find the bricks and put an order together and another 6 weeks for delivery. The cost has certain!y put me off buying any more of these books. Such a pity as the ideas and diagrams are good. Perhaps the author might consider what can be made with basic sets in future, rather than using a lot of different size plates and specialist bricks.
