Simple, quick and compact, just use carefully and buy an adaptor!
I've used one of these for decades, and have used one hundreds if not thousands of time in many countries. I recently tried an alternative from Amazon which was like a thermos flask with a built in heating element, but it was very bulky and slow, it took almost 10 minutes to boil 500ml in the UK, so I'm staying with one of these elements which, when I tested it, boiled 500ml in under 4 minutes.A couple of things to be aware of.You need an adaptor to plug this in. Many of the negative reviews on Amazon are complaining that it doesn't have a three-pin plug. Well, everywhere I've stayed in the UK has a kettle, I've only used these abroad, so I'd need an adaptor anyway. And adaptors are cheap, I've included a photo of the one I bought for Europe (and an old one I have for the UK which I used to try this out.)And there are no instructions with the packaging for this, or at least not in English (again see photos).Though you just fill a mug with water, insert the element, then plug in the element. Once it boils unplug the element, wait a few seconds for it to cool down before removing it from your mug. It will still be hot, so just put it somewhere sensible (I sometimes dip the element in a basin of water to cool it quickly). If you were to plug in one of these without putting it in water then it will get seriously hot, glow red, and possibly trip a mains fuse. You wouldn't turn on a kettle when it's empty, and this is an element without an off switch. One review complained that putting this element in their coffee was messy. Again, if you put coffee in a kettle to boil that's also going to get messy.

Nice little element
I used this on the Indian subcontinent for a few months, so the plug issue didn't worry me, since I needed an adaptor anyway. It's a well-sealed unit and with a full 230v (not always easy in some rural places) would boil a litre of water in short time. A decent length of chunky flex.I'd buy it again when I travel next.

I bought the item with a 2 pin plug
I tried another plug on the heater and it does work perfectly, the plug I bought along with it is faulty, the heater is being kept the plug is rubbish

Must be used very carefully
This worked well once I'd found a travel adaptor for it, but it's pretty dangerous - heats up really hot really quickly so MUST be already in water before you plug it in. Could easily burn/melt surfaces.

Good item - works well
Bought this as a spare, works well and I had tea and coffee in my hotel room every day.Come with a Chinese 2 pin plug. I am in the UK so I removed the plug and changed it for a 13 amp plug and changed the fuse to a 5amp. Wires are Brown (live) and Blue (neutral) same as UK, so no confusion with the wiring.Recommend a mug rather than a cup when boiling water and turn the plug off when water has boiled and leave the elemnt in the mug for 20 seconds before removing and making your drink.

It’s dangerous, burns quickly, no instructions in English. The plug is not suitable for Europe.
I used it to warm milk, within seconds it burned and everywhere was full of acrid smoke. There are no UK instructions, only Chinese. It does t do what it claims

Not useable waste of money
No good to me without an adaptor. Why can't the adaptor be sold as part of the item. It doesn't even show the plug properly in the advert so you can't see what sort of plug it is. I think it's a bit of a con when it's advertised like this. I refuse to pay twice as much for an adaptor so it's going in the bin. Waste of money.

no good product
I had to use a European plug, it's not stainless, rust appeared after a few hours of working, and it turns off the main fuse in the apartment with out kitchen fuse, so now I paid twice but I already ordered a proven heater.
