There is glue on one side. I used it on my doors, overlapped 3". Same thing with the quareter panels and 2 layers behind the rear seat. I used a different product for the floor and firewall.

Can this replace the hood liner?

Yes, it works great for a heat shield.

Can someone who has installed this product provide me with feedback on the heat and noise insulation performance? i'm confused by the mixed reviews.

I used this in a marine application to insulate and sound proof the engine bay/swim platform and it worked great! Really quiet the engine noise and kept the engine heat from heating up the beds. Easy to install and didn’t come apart from being only inches from the engine.
