The tablets are mashed together as recieved, is this typical?

No. Mine came in 2 bottles with the race tube (empty). There's another package type that has the tablets in plastic bags where they could get mashed in shipping but that's not what you seem to be referencing. Sounds like you should ask for a replacement.
