Product performs well, but condition on arrival was disappointing
The SmallRig top handle itself performs very well and has held up solidly in use. Once mounted, it feels stable and secure on my camera cage, and the multiple mounting points are genuinely useful for adding accessories like a microphone or light. In actual use, the handle feels strong and comfortable to hold. It hasn’t shown any issues with loosening or instability, even during longer shooting sessions. Overall functionality is exactly what I expected from SmallRig.That said, the condition it arrived in was disappointing. The box appeared to have been previously opened, and the handle itself had visible scuffs and light scratches. There was also a bit of residue present, which made it feel like it was not brand new. This was unexpected and not ideal for a product sold as new.Despite that, the performance has been solid and it has continued to hold up well over time. If the item had arrived in proper new condition, it would have been an easy 5-star experience.

Disappointing
If I build a rig from the parts that THEY recommend I EXPECT them to all be compatible with each other. But that isn't the case. I can't screw the follow focus to the side of the handle which is on the left because the camera grip is on the right, so I have to squeeze it onto the top of the cage next to the top handle on two nearest screw holes which is not the stablest. I have to extend the entire contraption beyond the limit of the rod otherwise it won't reach. I have an A7S III with a 50mm lens - nothing too exotic - but it barely reaches the focus ring! I will have to buy a longer rod. I can't use the HDMI clamp because there simply isn't enough room because the handle is on the left (because the camera grip is on the right), it needs about 1mm more space. This is critical because SmallRig's HDMI to HDMI cable for monitors is not coiled and there is no play in the cable when it is knocked. Do these people even test their own equipment? That's $20 extra for an HDMI clamp that I can't use, why couldn't it have been slimmer like the one that comes FREE with SmallRig's ZV-E1 cage???Also, the handle is not ergonomic, the spacing for the fingers are so far apart I can only assume they are for giants.UPDATE - SmallRig did offer a refund for one handle I had bought. Then they later offered a refund for several parts but appear to have reneged on that offer so I have adjusted my rating accordingly. Not only this company cannot design but cannot handle constructive criticism nor customer relations. Avoid.

Nice handle for a SmallRig Cage
I recently added the SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 Locating Pins (3765) to my camera rig setup with my Nikon Z6, and it’s been a fantastic addition for both functionality and comfort. This handle is designed for low-angle shots, and it delivers on that promise by reducing strain on my arms during extended shoots. Weighing only 124g due to its hollowed-out aluminum alloy design, it’s impressively lightweight yet feels incredibly sturdy and durable, making it easy to carry my rig around without fatigue. The ergonomic design with anti-slip and anti-freeze silicone padding is a standout. It provides a comfortable grip, even in colder conditions, which is a thoughtful touch for outdoor shoots. The five cold shoe mounts (three front, two rear) are a game-changer, allowing me to simultaneously mount accessories like a microphone, LED light, and my VILTROX DC-X2 monitor without cluttering the setup. The abundance of 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting points further enhances its versatility, letting me attach additional gear like a monitor mount (SmallRig 2903) or magic arm with ease.

Solid build, just not for me
The SmallRig Top Handle looks great and feels well-built, but I don’t use it much since I’m more of a gimbal guy. It’s sturdy and adds a nice grip for handheld shooting, so if that’s your style, it’s a great option. For me, I stick with my gimbal most of the time.

Kinda cheap???
Don’t get me wrong, it looks good and it serves its function, BUT it’s brand new and the bolt that you use to fasten the handle to the cage doesn’t sit flush. It is only held in by the friction of the contact it has on the arm (see photo). Kinda surprising considering all the other smallrig products screw down mostly flush. I’ve already had to tighten this bolt 3 times and I’ve only done one test shoot to test my camera settings… I’m worried about performance when working with this camera. In fact, I’ve already planned on not using this top grip as a grip entirely and only as a place to mount additional accessories… just disappointingly surprised since this is intended to be used as a grip, kinda cheap and will need to be replaced.

SmallRig Top Handle A Filmmaker’s Best Friend
As a photographer and filmmaker, I’m always looking for tools that can enhance my workflow without overcomplicating things. The SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 turned out to be exactly what I needed.First ImpressionsRight out of the box, the handle feels solid. The aluminum alloy build is durable but doesn’t weigh down my rig, which is a huge plus when you’re working on long shoots. I also noticed the anti-twist pins—such a small detail but a total lifesaver for keeping everything secure. How It HelpsI used this handle during a recent handheld shoot, and the difference in control was night and day. Panning and tilting felt smoother, and my shots were more stable overall. The ergonomic grip was comfortable even after hours of filming. Bonus: the 1/4"-20 threads made attaching my monitor and mic super easy. It’s like having a mini workbench on your rig!The Real DealThe thing that sold me was how versatile and intuitive this handle is. I don’t want to wrestle with equipment on set, and this handle just works. It’s simple, reliable, and makes my setup look as professional as it feels.Final ThoughtsIf you’re in the market for a handle that does its job without any fuss, the SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 is worth every penny. It’s practical, sturdy, and genuinely makes shooting easier. Highly recommend for anyone serious about their craft!

Great Build Quality but Not Ideal for Heavier Rigs
SmallRig continues to impress with its high-quality and versatile products. The SmallRig Top Handle with 3/8"-16 Locating Pin is no exception in terms of craftsmanship. It’s sturdy, well-designed, and fits perfectly with a variety of setups. The Arri-style locating pins ensure a secure fit, and installation with the included Allen key is quick and easy.Initially, I was very pleased with the handle. It’s low-profile, not too large or bulky, and balances well on smaller rigs. I appreciated the flexibility it offered, such as attaching accessories like a monitor or small fill light. The option to integrate a 15mm rod through the center is also a nice touch. However, as I upgraded my Panasonic GH5 setup into a heavier rig (adding an Atomos Ninja 5, Tilta plate, and Anton Bauer gold mount batteries), I found the handle less practical. The short length and forward positioning made it difficult to balance the 10lb rig properly. It felt top-heavy and awkward, especially for handheld use. Additionally, the handle’s shape and size weren’t ideal for securely gripping such a heavy setup—it even felt like it could slip out of my hand at times. For lighter setups or those without significant backweight, this handle is a great choice. But if you’re building a more robust rig with heavy accessories, you might want to consider a longer or more ergonomically designed handle.Pros:Excellent build qualitySecure fit with Arri-style locating pinsCompact and easy to storeFlexible accessory mounting optionsCons:Not ideal for heavier rigsShort handle length limits balance and gripAwkward positioning for large setupsWhile it’s a solid product, I had to part ways with it due to my rig’s evolving needs. Great for smaller builds, but less suitable for heavy-duty setups.

Multi-use grip with dual Arri-mounts and cold-shoe mounts on front and back.
This is a solidly-made handle with dual Arri-mounts + built-in cold-shoes located on both sides and back. The handle can be installed pointing forward or reverse with plenty of options for mounting accessories. The grip is very comfortable with a thin rubberized layer under the finger grooves for extra grip. Well-worth it, especially if you find it on sale.
