It might, you 40 inches before you extend it.

What is the distance between the screws (where it is screwed into the wall)?

The holes are about an inch or so apart, maybe inch and half. The bracket is placed vertically on a stud, at least that is the way I mounted it. Very secure. Would purchase it again.
