Great for use in an optics lab
This device is great. I got this for use in my optics lab for fiber coupling free space lasers into a fiber. It combines the visible laser source and power meter into one device. While slightly annoying to switch the fiber between the two, having to carry one device only is convenient. The power meter is not very well calibrated (measured to be ~30% off from a calibrated ThorLabs meter), and only goes up to something like 3mW. However, it has very nice low light sensitivity and can start working down to 2-3 nW. I've used this at 460 nm, 850 nm and 1450 nm and it will give you a relative reading at all three wavelengths. Overall, a very good device for helping with fiber coupling. Buying another one today.

Works for me
Worked fantastic easy to use. Does the job !

A decent alternative or backup.
Works well. Easy to use. Within range of tolerance with the Exfo meters. I compared it to Exfo.

Pretty impressed
I ordered a ripley light meter and it was a 2 week lead time. When the 2 weeks came, they extended it to 4 weeks, so that had me in a bad spot. I tried other vendors and nothing available quickly. I found this on Amazon for next day shipping. It arrived on time and it works. Seriously; it works. It has different wave lengths to measure and everything. Iโm impressed with it. Now, how long it lasts Iโm not sure. Iโll update later if an issue. But so far, it serves its purpose.

I mean, it works, but its not a great tool
I bought this one and another one at the same time and I'm happier with the other one. This one was $13 more, but has a narrower power range and fewer features. The manual is bad engrish, so its guessing game to figure out how it works. The SC adapter does not fit the visual fault locator. And in fact nothing does, so you just have to shove the end of your fiber in the hole and hope something goes through to help identify fibers. Regular OTDR adapters do not fit this meter. It comes with an SC adapter but only works on the power meter side. Overall if you are looking for good tools, this is not it. If you are looking for cheap tools that are good enough to get the job done, this is it but there are cheaper better ones on Amazon so still keep looking.

Impressive
The meter is great and the time it took to get to me was impressive

No manual, very unreliable readings, NOT A LIGHT SOURCE, only a VFL!
I bought this because it was the Amazon Choice, as well as the cheapest meter on the market. I should have known better. You get what you pay for. First, the meter port is a screw-on F-connector (NOT ST) that nobody uses anymore, and for which no adapter is supplied. It does have an SC adapter for the (unlabeled, left-hand) VFL port, but since that's not actually a calibrated light source (as you'll see in a minute), the adapter is pointless. I'd rather have a screw-on LC ferule adapter, but the only thing supplied is a silly little miniscule plastic insert that promptly disappeared. Comparing readings with a know good meter shows this one to be wildly inaccurate. I don't even get the same readings between power-cycles of the unit. It arrived with no documentation whatsoever, so you're left with what's in the Amazon product page, which is pretty much useless. I bought this to use as a light source to test fiber with another device, because the listing clearly says "light source", followed by a list of wavelengths. In the fiber optic world, this is the term for a calibrated laser at a specific wavelength, typically 1310 or 1550nm for Single Mode. But the left-hand port emits a visible light only, which in the biz is called a Visual Fault Locator, NOT a "light source". You cannot transmit actual 1310 or 1550 light for testing single mode fiber. It's not uncommon for a VFL port to also have light-source capabilities, but not on the unit. It only emits red visible light when you press the "Light" button, but otherwise emits nothing. Don't buy this if, like me, that's what you thought you'd get.

Worked great!
Bought this for my job, and had no way of tracing out fiber runs. This did exactly what i needed and saved me a lot of time!

Does the job
Works well for me because of the light meter and red light for simple faulting,, not nedding 2 bits of kit. It has been working fine but did have one incident where the light reading did not look right
