Here is what you need to know.
It seems that most prefer to use this tool with pets, but I bought it for us humans.Firstly, the picture on amazon is not that clear. It is actually about 1/4 inch wide and angled at the blade. The blade is not very sharp and safe to touch with a finger.I was able to remove tartar from my teeth after repetitive scraping. For the price I paid, I am quite pleased. Make sure you clean the toothwith hot water or alcohol later. the metal appears to be good quality and almost professional grade. It holds very well. One side is left handed and the other is right handed. Thus, it works for different angles and sides.Lastly, I assume that the blade can be sharpened later with a dremel. Out of the box, the blade is sharp enough to remove most tartar.

FOR DOGS
I thought this would be the sharp/pointy type of scraper for human teeth, but it's not - I found out after purchasing that it's actually for DOGS, not PEOPLE! There was no mention of that fact in the page title, but I did notice later that it says canine in the details. Not sure why Amazon categorized it as #2 in Health & Personal Care > Personal Care > Oral Hygiene > Dental Picks instead of Pet Supplies...I didn't take off any stars for my personal mistake, but I DID give it only 4 after trying it out on our dog - it's too large to get in between chihuahua teeth or into the grooves of molars, but works really well for chipping stuff away from the exposed front & back. Just be careful not to whack the gums when you're trying to work on & hold onto a tiny dog in panic mode!

A MUST-have for [well-behaved] PETS!
Great tool, great price! This is actually the 2nd of these (same brand, same tool) I have purchased in the past year or so. I bought this to keep my dogs' teeth in great condition, for their health and so that they would look fantastic at dog shows. My dogs love to show, they are convinced the whole shebang is a party being held in their honor. ;) One of the things the dog show judge inspects is the dogs' teeth. He wants to see a mouth full of pearly whites, and this handy little tartar scraper allows me to give him just what he is looking for. I have herding breed dogs (Australian shepherds) and they are prone to scary reactions to anesthetics such as are used at vet clinics when you take your dog in for a "dental." I've worked hard to have my dogs trained and cooperative for grooming and care, beginning in puppyhood. So all of those things together mean that the very best- and safest- way for me to keep my dogs' teeth clean (and protect my dogs from diseases associated with tooth & gum disease, including heart problems and serious infections) is to simply have them lay down and relax on the grooming table or floor while I do a little routine tartar scraping. I use a little syringe to squirt water in there and keep their mouth comfortable just like dental professionals do at our own dental cleanings, and I simply gently go from tooth to tooth until their teeth look great! If they are wiggly I just work with them in short sessions, talking to them and rewarding them for being still and patient, and before long they get the hang of it. And of course they get a treat at the end! This was a tiny tiny investment which has saved me HUNDREDS of dollars in veterinary dental cleaning expenses, and allows me to avoid the risk of anesthesia for my dogs at the same time! The tool is very comfortable to hold and use, it has enough texture to maintain a good grip on it even when it gets wet. Now that this has become a regular part of our grooming routine, I will be sure to always have several of these scattered around my grooming boxes and travel bags, because we'll never go back to the risky & expensive way of keeping beautiful teeth! [Photos are my "Aussie kids" giving their best smiles!]

Although this seems like a good tool to clean a pets teeth
Although this seems like a good tool to clean a pets teeth, I am wary because the edges are sharp and I'm afraid of metal splintering off on my cats teeth. In addition, I am afraid of scraping the enamel off too. Of course I have not figured out yet how I am going to get my panther boy to cooperate to let me clean his teeth. I was thinking of asking the vet for some tranquilizers for both of us, LOL. I am a dental hygienist by trade, but I can definitely vouch that it is much easier to clean human teeth, as they are more cooperative.

The tool would be pretty good i guess if i were a dentist but ...
I got this tool to get some of the tarter scraped of my dogs front eye tooth where she was getting some build up. The tool would be pretty good i guess if i were a dentist but i was afraid i was going to hurt my dog or her tooth so i quit and just took her to the vet. It just did not work well for me,but now that she is starting with clean teeth i can keep them clean and the tarter knocked off. Overall i would say pretty good tool. If it had worked for me would be 5 stars but i knocked 1 off for not working for me!

It does great with scraping off the built up plaque and tartar
Having already paid a fortune to have my dogs teeth professionally cleaned over a year ago, you would think that I would have kept up with brushing every day so the plaque wouldn't build up again. I didn't, and the plaque and tartar is back! I don't want to pay to have them done again, so I bought this. It does great with scraping off the built up plaque and tartar, but he will only allow me to do if for a few seconds at a time. So I brush his teeth every day and that seems to soften stuff enough to scrape off quickly. It's tough to get close to the gum-line without scraping his gums, so you'll need a different tool for that.
