Can this gauge be used for toothed belts, such as timing belts?

Have used it on a 3/8 and 1/2 inch cog belts and seems to be ok measuring right on the cog. Have not used it for a toothed drive belt.

My 07 Infiniti m35 v6 manual requires this tool. However the service manual also tell me that belt needs to be 188-208 lbs. This tool maxes out at 180

that 188-208 maybe new belt tension. After you put on the new belt I think you get it to 188-208 lbs then run the engine for a few minutes to "seat" the bel. you should check your service manual. With the Maxima a lot like the infinity Nissan publishes two different tension ranges. One range 188-208 refers to new belts and the other range 164-184 is a retension range. It's how much tension the belt will lose.I think the tool is the right choice for you.
