Can't live without it!
As someone who suffers from terrible GERD even with prescription medicine, currently dexilant, - adding tagament before bed has really made a big difference. I also take it during the day if I am having an attack. Works right away.

Just okay.
My main objection to using Tagamet as an acid reducer is that it takes longer to kick in than those you chew. I do take acid reducers at bedtime on those occasions when I think I may have eaten something that will trigger acid reflux. Taking Tagamet ahead of the game is probably the best way to use the product. I still prefer chewable antacids however. They work just as well, but faster. One last note, Tagamet contains warfarin (Coumadin) a substance you may want to avoid, as it thins the blood. Ask your doctor if in doubt.
