Why does it say 180 cards if there are 36 packs?

"Includes 36 Sword & Shield Astral Radiance booster packs containing 10 cards " is the description. The reference to "over 180 cards" means the different cards that you can actually receive in the Astral Radiance set. So obviously, in 360 cards, there will be some duplicate cards.

I received a beaten up box. Is it safe to assume the cards are undamaged?

It should not have been beaten up. All out products are carefully packed. Please make sure someone didn't damage the box while opening the shipping cardboard. It left the warehouse in mint condition.
