Is this game targeted towards racing fans only?

Nope. I'm not a racing fan but very much enjoy the game.

The way to distinguish between the 1st and 2nd editions is to look at the color of the 1 Wear ("1W") token on the back of the box - the first token in a set of three. It was black in the 1st edition; It is white in the 2nd edition. As of 07/2020, the 2nd edition is the edition sold on this amazon listing and the white 1W token can be seen in the 3rd picture of the listing.

Is this updated version (with expasion) that supports 12 players? The original supported only 6 (photo shows old 6p box). Thanks

where can I get extra tracks?

This game is based upon the old 3M/Avalon Hill game Speed Circuit. Any of those tracks should work with these rules. Although the new rules add an extra slow-groove line. If Ultra-Pro(publisher) or Douglas Shulz(designer) don't publish any more you would have to look on-line for aftermarket products. Good luck.
