If you're looking for pulp, look no further. I've followed James Scott Bell's writing from his suspense thrillers to his excellent series of How To books on writing. With Trouble is my Beat he not only delivers six entertaining stories written in the tough guy pulp tradition, but it could also be a primer for how to tell a good, old fashioned detective story. The writing here is reminiscent of Raymond Chandler's Marlowe stories. It's a good buy if you like tales about tough guys and dangerous dames in the 1940s.
