Standard Cherry Brown Deck with Some Bonus Features - No Backlight A Dealbreaker for Some
THE BACKSTORY - I'm a mechanical keyboard enthusiast and have tried dozens of models over the years. This time, I was in the market for a full-size keyboard with Cherry MX Browns: nothing too fancy, cheaper the better. I chose this K73M.THE GOOD- Value. Solid construction and good typing feel.- Eye-catching color schemes straight out of the box.- Detachable USB-A to USB-C cable.- Media knob works super well. No bloatware needed to control volume, switch tabs, and scroll in Windows 11. I prefer it to the knob on the Logitech G815/G915 and the one on the Razer Hunstsman Elite. Hard to believe, I know.THE MAYBE- It's not part of one of the big ecosystems, like Razer or Corsair. I suppose it all depends on your level of hatred towards peripheral software.- Full disclosure, I did not investigate, download, install, or use the software i-rocks claims can "finetune your repeat delay time, repeat rate, set up macro keys, or assign key functions."THE BAD- Despite displaying "Backlit" as a special feature at the time of this review, there is no backlighting. Forget RGB, besides Num/Caps/Scroll Lock indicators, it's dark. I'm guessing this is a dealbreaker for many. It should carry a disclaimer: touch-typists or daytime use only. If I learn that I need to install software to have backlighting, I'm dropping this review to two stars.THE SUMMARY- Extremely niche keyboard. It's exactly what I was looking for, but I admit it's a pretty strange combination of price and features.
