TP-Link TL-SG1008D 8 Port Gigabit Ethernet Network Switch, Black

Bought this to ramp up my home network and not have to constantly change which device is connected via cable at home! Bought this specific model since it offered 8 gigabit ports (7 usable since 1 goes to the router that is connected to your modem) and its from TP-Link a company that i've bought devices from for years. Ease of setup: Super easy, plug and play. I have all 8 ports in use right now and it was a very simple setup process. Long story: I recently upgraded to gigabit internet from xfinity, while the service is great, the xFi device has some serious issues when it comes to connecting over VPN through your WiFi devices! It will randomly drop VPN packets for 10-15 seconds every now and then! The xfinity customer care refused to believe this so I had to improvise! Now I use my xFi device in bridge mode so it functions as a gigabit modem and have the ethernet out going to a Nest WiFi router, the ethernet out from that flows into this switch. Overall this setup works great. Minor issues: - The device is extremely light, it would have been great if they had anti slip pads at the bottom of the device so it won't keep sliding around on my table. - The power cable could have definitely done with a smaller profile! It did not need the big head prongs.

I am a networking professional and bought this switch because there was a good deal going on and I needed an extra GigE switch for my home. Pros: -I've done a lot file transfers and streaming through it and so far haven't noticed any issues. I haven't done any iPerf tests to confirm that it can actually support line rate Gigabit Ethernet, but so far I'd recommend it. -I've also done a lot of ping floods through it and haven't seen any packet loss. -It doesn't make any noise or excess heat and has a small footprint so it fits inside my structured wiring panel. -Also, the power adapter has a skinny footprint, so it doesn't take up a bunch of outlets on my power strip, which is nice. Cons: -It's unmanaged - but what do you expect for the price? I'm a cheapskate, I'll admit it. This thing fits the bill and I'll be happy as long as it lasts a few years. -No link lights on the front of the switch - this is a bit odd since most consumer grade desktop switches have link lights on the front. The front panel has a tinted appearance to it which originally made me think there were link indicators behind it, but there are not. It's ok, there's link lights on the back with the ports.

I ran out of Ethernet ports on my 5 port 10/100 Ethernet Switch, so I got this 8 port switch. I can still use the 5 port switch on slower devices - just chain it to this one. Installation was simple. I disconnected power from the old switch, and pulled the wall wart out of the power strip. I then removed the Ethernet cables from the old switch, and powered up the new switch. As I plugged Ethernet cables from my devices, the active light for the port on this switch came on. The switch looks great, but I have it on the floor, where the cables and power strip are. I don't change cables often, so it's OK to keep it there, out of the way. I sort of wish I'd gotten the metal version of this switch, but this one works well. If it dies, I might upgrade, but it has a lifetime warranty. Oh, and do not pay for professional installation. Finally, as far as I can tell, my Ethernet speed to my computer is at least 10 times faster.

This does the job of a network switch. Of that I have no complaints. For just under $20 you get a hunk of plastic that looks pretty sleek and expands your network by 7 ports (the eighth is really to connect to your router). Give it some power and start plugging your stuff in. Easy. The lights on each port are not obnoxiously bright like my cable modem which is nice, and I don't hear the hum or squeal some folks have noted in their reviews. If I put my ear directly on it I hear what resembles those noises but under normal circumstances being at least 2 feet away with other ambient noise in the room I do not hear it. My main issue is that it is way too light to stay in place, hence the loss of 1 star on this review. The weight of the 7 ethernet cords in the back make it pop a wheelie on my desk. Even 2 or 3 are enough to drag it off the desk. It would be helpful if they add $1 to the price and add rubber feet to the bottom. The bottom does have 4 small "feet" but they are just part of the molded plastic case. If they were rubber/rubberized then perhaps it wouldn't slide so much or at least you could put some weight on top and have it stay in place. But putting something on top takes away from the looks of it so...I could have gotten the metal version which may be heavy enough to stay put, and this one does have 2 keyhole slots on the back for hanging, both of which would have been fine for my desk at work, but with the sleek black look let's be honest, it's marketed for the home consumer. Who is going to mount this on their living room wall with cords hanging off it or want the bulky metal one on display? So, overall it does it's job and I don't regret purchasing it, I just wish it was a bit heavier so it would stay put.

I have several devices in my entertainment center that wireless built in, but I guess the walls created too much interference for a good signal. Sometimes Netflix would buffer, and Youtube would have to buffer constantly. I ordered this switch to connect everything and run one CAT6 ethernet cable to my router in another room. It was basically plug-n-play. Yep, that easy. Just connected the ethernet cable to the router, and plugged all of my devices in. Everything has worked perfect since. It sits in my entertainment center and maybe gets a little warm- maybe. Lights on the front blink when transmitting, and are off if it doesn't detect a connection. Some of my devices seem to stay "connected" even when powered down, while others don't. I have 4 devices plugged in: Dish Network HD dual tuner DVR, PS3, LG BD player, LG TV. Wife has been watching Netflix through the TV now without any issues. Online gaming is better. Firmware updates go quicker on all devices. I may get another one for the office as I've now used all the available ports on my router. This thing is great- it just works like it's supposed to, with nothing for you to do but plug everything in.

Amazon needs to fix the reviews for this Model Switch. This switch is definitely well worth the Money. My speeds on my LAN went from about 10MBs to 100+MBs between capable computers. Remember that you need a 10/100/1000 network card installed on both devices that you are testing data transfer. The Ethernet cable connecting your devices should be CAT 6 or CAT 5e minimum, but CAT 5 will work as long as local radio interference is not with in close range of cables and the switch. Try to keep 2.4 Ghz wireless phone base away from area of the switch to avoid radio interference. I hooked the switch to port #1 of a Buffalo WZR-1750DHP Gigabit Router. I then connected the TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port switch via CAT 5e cable to 3 client computers though out our home. My host computer is hooked to port #2 of the Buffalo router along with a NAS Media Server in port #3. Port #4 which is the last port of the Gigabit router is used for a VOIP phone which is used as a fax line. Originally the 3 clients were switched from an older Belkin N series router which kept my speeds at 10 MBs due to the routers older 10/100 Mbps maximum capabilities. The TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port switch has allowed me to connect my 3 additional clients directly to my Gigabit LAN network and greatly increase speeds to 100MBs +. Moving large data such as backup files has become much easier. I use to put off data transfer or major system backups until I knew that I would be off the network due to the slow speeds and the extended periods needed to complete these kind of task. I hooked the old Belkin router to one of the additional TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port switch ports just to extend wireless coverage to the east end of the house. I no longer need the additional ports of the old Belkin router, but the TP-LINK TL-SG1008D 10/100/1000Mbps 8-Port switch has allowed me to continue using it's wireless capabilities. If you want a dependable true Gigabit switch then this is the one. Remember that you can only go as fast as the slowest link. Be sure that all gear to include wiring from point A to point B and so on are 10/100/1000Mbps capable for the best results.

We are able extended internet to workstations with one single internet connection. It is easly to use. Just give power and use it.

Der Switch tut soweit was er soll, aber leider kam das Netzteil nicht mit einem EU-Stecker, sondern mit einem US-Stecker. Ich habe das Netzteil jetzt erst mal über Laborkabel mit 4mm Büschelstecker an der Schuko-Steckdose angeschlossen. Das Netzteil liefert laut Aufschrift 9V DC bei 0,6A. Der Eingangsbereich ist 100V bis 240V AC. Der Hohl-Stecker vom Netzteil der in den Switch kommt hat einen Aussendurchmesser von 5,5mm und einen Innendurchmesser von 1,9mm. Masse liegt am Aussenkontakt des Hohlsteckers. Der Pluspol am Innenkontakt. Diese Informationen gehöhren eigendlich zur Produktbeschreibung dazu.

Tout est dans le titre. Le modèle vendu est manifestement destiné au marché anglais: la prise électrique est une prise anglaise incompatible avec les prises françaises. Pour le reste rien à signaler.
