8QT Professional Grade Plantation Products Vermiculite

This bag is going to last forever! I used this to make my own starter mix and have had excellent results with growing my watermelon, pumpkin, tomato and lemon seeds! My recipe: Approx. A quarter pound spagnum moss, 1 brick of coco peat, 1 cup of vermiculite and 1.5 Tbs of garden lime (to neutralize acid levels of spagnum moss). I just mixed these all together and soaked the mixture until it was all damp before putting in the baskets. Some people use just the coco peat bricks and vermiculite, however the spagnum moss is cheaper.

Great addition to soil for starting seeds!

It's my opinion that anyone working with really any type of plants should keep vermiculite on hand. I use this as a constant source in all of my soil mixes. No matter the type of plant I always add this stuff. It also works well for cuttings and propagating. It's good for seed starting really just about any application this has a purpose. This along with perlite are the 2 absolute must have items I will never be without. I grow everything from all of my garden plants from seed to cuttings from my meyer lemon tree. I have grapefruit, oranges, strawberries, blueberries and many many more. There isn't much I dont grow. It's one of my absolute favorite and most fulfilling hobbies. If u take gardening seriously u should make this purchase. Hope this helps out anyone that enjoys growing like I do.

Works for all the things vermiculite is good for, but I'm confused about consistency. I've bought this same EXACT vermiculite three times now. The two times, it was the same... what I would estimate to be about medium coarseness. The last time, it was much finer. Is this normal?

I bought the large pack and it was perfect because it allowed me to germinate a large quantity of seeds for my tower garden

Exactly what I needed for a good price!

I use vermiculite as an ingredient in the soilless mix I make to start plants. It has been used for years in the horticultural industry to improve soil aeration while still helping to retain moisture and nutrients to feed roots. This 8 quart bag is not big enough to amend large amounts of soil or make a substantial volume of soilless mix, but is the perfect volume for the number of plants I start. It should be noted that this vermiculite is rather fine in particle size (slightly larger than sand and smaller) which isn't the best for mixing with soil. However, if you are interested in growing mushrooms this is a great particle size. All in all I was satisfied with the product. It could be bigger in particle size as it is being sold as horticultural vermiculite, but since no particle size was given by the seller it is what it is.
