It was a birthday gift and the instructions got tossed, how do I put in the batteries?

Look on the bottom side of the hammer. There is a small panel you just pop off.

What is this made of?

Plastic mostly. The Hammer head is rigid plastic. The handle and pommel feel like imitation leather type plastic and the strap feels like imitation flexible leather.

Why is it taking so long to be shipped?

Well it depends on where you are located and there is always the track where it is if you copy the ID number on the shipping
