Always a good drive, low failure rate

I'm using this drive as a media server and was originally concerned about the speed of the drive for streaming. My concerns were unfounded as this drive performs PERFECTLY! Lots of storage and the pricing was just right. Excellent expansion drive!

This has been working great so far for me. It has been the best bang for the buck I could find! But one thing to note is that the capacity is actually 12.7 TB and since 1TB is 1024 bytes, it's about 14,000,000,000,000 (or 14e12) bytes.

I've only had this a few days. I'm using it to have a backup of my media server's internal drive. I replace the internal/external drives about every 5-6 years to avoid having one or the other die and losing the data. I have every dvd/blu-ray I own ripped and compressed on them and access my media server via my roku devices. This drive runs warmer than the WD external it replaced and warmer than my other 3 internal drives, 2 of which are also seagate drives. I've ordered a fan to place near this, which should help. It basically just idles all the time unless I'm copying a file to it. It's been a couple days since I mirrored the drive, so it's been idle since. It's currently sitting at 48C whereas my other internal drives are 33C/34C. Seems odd that it's running at almost 120F while at idle when it's 70F in my house right now. It took 10 hours or so to mirror my media server drive to it which has just under 6TB of data on it. I used macrium reflect to clone it so as to not alter the modify/create dates/times on the files. I use those to build playlists out of the latest videos I placed on it (as well as various other playlists for quick access). Seems fairly quick to load videos to watch (which I'll never do) and to copy individual movie/tv series files to (which is what I will use it for). I don't know what actual HDD is in this box, would be nice to know.

As advertised. Great alternative to PC internal hardrive for us less than tech Navy people. Plenty off space for my son's many, many games

If you want space, be an astronaut like Katy Perry! I lurv her! But if you dont have resources like hers, this device would give you 14TB without having to ask Jeff to be included in next shuttle.

Reliable over and over. I have several of these, and will keep buying them as I need storage.

Great price for the 14Tb which gives me enough capacity to backup a Synology NAS. Not that the speed matters so much for that, it's really all about the capacity, but it seems plenty fast enough.

There's a reason why this brand has been a leader for so long. With plug adapters to accommodate anyone across the entire globe. With a hard drive space 4x more than a portable for nearly the same price. With proven quality from other portable drives that's lasted me over a decade and still going strong. And now at a price point that makes a 14tb storage drive a worthwhile investment aa drives of this size are slowly becoming more affordable. There's simply too many positives towards upgrading now. Yes, this one isn't portable as it requires an ac cable, but for an all in one giant media storage drive at an affordable price (even better if you catch it on sale as I had) There's no better time to consider upgrading, and saving those smaller drives as general backup. Time tested proven quality from a brand that's highly reviewed everehere for good reason.

I bought a 14 TB Seagate External HD at the end of March 2025. It functioned perfectly well for about 6 weeks, then started slowing down and having connection issues. Eventually, after less than 8 weeks it stopped connecting at all. Went through the various diagnostic protocols - it became pretty obvious that the HD itself was faulty. At this point I had about 10 TB of data stored on the HD. Consider that at this point I have a lot of private & financial information on the drive. The replacement process involves shipping it off with a courier & trusting that at no point will that information be accessed & compromised. I'm not even sure if that replacement process is worth the risk. Very disappointing.
