First, if you're going to use this for access to streaming, I suggest the BD-5900. It has many more streaming apps. As for HDMI cable, I recommend that if what you're attaching to can accept that. If you're wondering if you have to use HDMI, if suggest googling an owner's manual. (I exchanged the 5700 for the 5900 for the streaming reasons.)
