Works wonders
I've recovered 100s of dollars worth of lures and even pulled a fishing rod that someone left behind because it got snagged. Its a pain to unwrap, and using it in fast water can be difficult as well, but I recommend picking one of these up. Thought this was a gimmick, but Im the king of snags fishing a very old rocky river, so I decided to add this to my bag. I was truly surprised when this worked, and continued to work.

Impressive Tool !
I’ve fished with this retriever 3 times and it’s already saved me 10 large deep diver crank baits and even pulled 2 extra up last week. Started trolling deep divers bumping the bottom in 10-15 feet of water, then coming up on humps and shelves which is just asking to loose them, but it really surprises them into a reaction strike. My fishing buddy had one of these and saw it work one time and ordered mine. Won’t never be without this tool again. After using it some I’ve learned you really need to be vertical to get the quickest hookup and it’s not automatic. May take multiply drops to get it to snag the lure but you can feel the hook up plain as day. Really impressive and interesting to play with, specially when you can come home with more crank baits than you left with.

String management is a problem, but it works
I got on the lake early at 6am, and by 9am I still hadn't caught a fish. Several boats around me were catching some on shad like crankbaits, so I tied on a 8XD, which dives 16' deep. I got desperate and casted toward a tree sticking out of the water, hoping to go just over the highest branches. Well, the crankbait went 6" too deep, and both trebles got stuck in the branch. I previously wrapped the string of the Lure Retriever around a section of pvc pipe, so it wouldn't just be a mess in my tackle box, but the string really twists up. I pulled out the retriever, attached it to the line coming from my pole and down to the snag. I tightened up the fishing line and let the the retriever go down. It didn't go so smoothly, so I had to really wiggle the rod around to get it to slide down. After a few bangs, up came the crankbait floating to the top. Saved me a $15 lure on the first trip! Would be 5 stars if the string was better quality and had some means of managing it.

Rescues your snagged lures
More than paid for itself on the first use! I ended up bird nesting and my new fancy jointed swim bait sunk to the bottom and got snagged while I was picking it out. Had this thing on the kayak and “Got’r” back. Get it you’ll need it eventually.

So bad I had to write a review.
Purchased in 8/21. I have used alot of different lure retreivers in my life and this one is the absolute worst. I used it for 6 months and I have rescued only 2 lures out of about 25 hang ups. Normally with and other lure retreiver, I average retreiving my lure 80% to 85% of the time. The Lews Git'r back retreiver will more times than not, pinch and cut the line and leave the lure forever intombed in a watery grave. I use 35 lb to 65 lb braid and 20 to 25 lb. floro. Line breakage should not be a issue. At first glance it looks like it would work great, but the balance is off and the retreiver twists around the line eye of the retreivere when trying to knock the lure free, resulting breaking the line. I have failed to rescue, 4 thunder crickets, 2 crankbaits, 6 jigs and numerous soft plastic texas rigs and drop shots. I really thought that it would shine retreiving crankbaits, but NO. So, if I was you I would pass this retreiver by. Its kinda like qubic zirconium, looks like a diamond, but it just wont cut glass.

Mixed feelings could be operator error.
So I do a lot of pond fishing mostly from the bank and the ponds around my area have a lot of snags in them mainly tree branches and limb. I find that this retriever works well if your dropping it straight down onto your snagged lure, which may be its intended design but I find that it’s not practical for snagged lures 10, 15, 20 ect. Feet away. It’s to heavy so it’s really hard to keep it above or even with whatever your snagged on. You have to turn the drag all the way and get your line tight enough you can walk on it and by that time the hook is buried so deep the only thing that could free it is TNT. But like I said I’m not sure if it’s designed to free snags when your line is more parallel to the water and if it’s not then completely ignore this review and pardon my ignorance. But if you are bank fishing and catch a snag within the 28 foot cord length your gonna struggle trying to free the lure and if you do free it everting in the area is long gone. However it does work extremely well if you’re dropping straight down or when your line is at a more perpendicular angle to the water. Hopes this helps and good luck on the water.

Gets lures back as it should
Gets lures back as it should. I used an old bait caster reel to keep the cord from tangling and I can reel it back in when finished.

Yeah, what a contraption?! Imagine searching thru youtube for a video, in the middle of nowhere just to figure out how to use this...ffs. Then, with it on the line (braid...no stretch), rod tip as high as i could get it from a kayak, STILL didnt gain enough momentum to get my lure back!?!! Super disappointed in this product...product design as well, bc i feel like the yellow triangle causes too much resistance in the water...what do i know? I was able to get my lure back on my own..the old school way
