Very creative and engaging
The Zoey and Sassafras series has been by far the most engaging and enjoyable chapter books that we have read together so far. It features a clever, independent young girl of color, her brilliant mother, her adorable cat, and many fantastical tales that combine and cultivate a whimsical imagination and a deep love and wonder for science and all the many ways that it interweaves itself into our daily life. The books encourage exploration of the natural world around us, but they also spark imaginative play, and, of course, teach many wonderful lessons along the way.In each book, Zoey performs at least one experiment that is easily replicated at home, almost always with items you would already have around your kitchen. It’s such a fun way to bring another level of immersion and learning to these fantastic books. It has been really neat for my child to see Zoey’s experiments in action. As of writing this, we have just finished book 4 out of 6 currently published in the series. Asia Citro’s books are so well written and enjoyable that I find myself absolutely treasuring our reading time together on a whole new level whenever Zoey and Sassafras are on our reading menu. Not only have I eagerly bought the whole set—one book at a time as we finished them off—but I’ve found that my child is extra eager to dive into chapter books now.Oh—and the illustrations are ADORABLE.I can not praise these books highly enough, and I am so relieved and excited to see that she is working on a 7th book to be released later this year.

We love these books
We love these books! WE are just now reading the third one. They are truly wonderful. It is nice because my just turned 5 year old loves reading and all the other chapter books I have tried are too mature for her (saying things like stupid and shutup). These books have a good message for young girls and do not use any "bad" words (as we call them in our house). She can't wait to find out where the "bubbles" are coming from (we are on chapter 9). So glad we found the Zoey and Sassafras books.

The kids liked it!
As an adult, I found the story pretty slow. Scientific method is not a discussion I've had with my grandchildren. These stories have to do with solving problems using a logical scientific approach. My grandchildren liked the stories and have asked me to buy the next one after finishing another. This is a bedtime story as it doesn't match the intensity of the videos they are allowed to watch earlier in the day.

Zoey is a strong role model and has good positive self talk
My daughter adores these books. They make her laugh out loud. The author makes the scientific method accessible and interesting for a 5.5 year old. Zoey is a strong role model and has good positive self talk. Her mom encourages her to figure things out on her own but gives her support when she’s stumped. In this one, Sassafras gets his head stuck in one of Zoey’s experiments and the illustration is charming. All little girls need these books!

Loved!
These books have inspired my child to start reading on her own. She loves that Zoey is a girl and into science with a twist of magic! And don't forget there's a cat that helps her! These books are small enough to make any inexperienced reader feel accomplishment and pride in being able to finish a whole book all by themselves. She has the whole set now and is on book 4. We are excited for the new book to come out this fall. :)

Great introduction to environmental science
What a wonderful introduction to environmental science for kids! As with Dragons and Marshmallows (Zoey and Sassafras)  and Monsters and Mold (Zoey and Sassafras) , the scientific method is presented in an appealing way for the younger elementary crowd. We paired this book with Asia's other book, A Little Bit of Dirt: 55+ Science and Art Activities to Reconnect Children with Nature , to discuss water pollution. We can't wait for the next one to come out!

Love this book series (as much as my kid does!)
Just finished this installment in the Zoey and Sassafras series and we loved it as much as the previous books. The series is engaging and easy to follow, while laying a fun foundation of learning the scientific method. We will definitely read all the books!

Wonderful story that captured my 7 year old son completely again. We are currently testing every patch of water we come a cross for pollution.
