The Yamaha XS650 Engine: Including the Electrical System

Astonishingly good photographs
The illustrations are second to none in this book. It's translated from the original German, so some of the grammar and spelling are a little "off" ("funktion" is but one example) but overall an excellent manual. I had hoped it would go into the differences between the "256" engines and the "447" engines, for example, or mention the differences in the timing chain sprockets, where, after a certain year, they changed to number of teeth on the crankshaft sprocket and the cam sprocket. This is a "must-have" for shops and owners of XS650s who do their own work. I fall in the latter group, as I've been wrenching on motorcycles for over 50 years.

This book is well done with many many photographs. A must have
As an XS650 Owner with both the Hanes and the Clymer manuals I find this book to be invaluable with the many photographs, very well done. This is a very good addition to your manuals or just a great gift for anyone who likes old style twins.

Just OK
Not much I didn't already know about the 650, but still a useful reference. Nice pics, and it's always good to have more information, but a lot of the contents can be found in the various shop manuals ( OEM & aftermarket).

God bless the author of this book
Chopping my first XS this book has been super handy as a reference. Color pictures, clear directions, easy to comprehend. This guy should write for Haynes

excellent reference for XS650 work
lots of color fotos.my one disappointment, however, is that the fotos are sometimes not large enough. a person cud get more info out of some of them, were they printed larger.i recommend a larger-format book if this is ever updated by the author.

Great info!
If you work on the XS650, get this book. Heavily illustrated in color with tons of useful captions. Engine cutaways! Completely useful sections on the on simplifying the electrical systems. Gearbox and clutch in color diagrams. A huge upgrade in information from the Haynes & Clymer manuals. My only critical points which are really hypercritical are the odd German translation errors ("funktion") and the lack of sections on useful upgrades like PMAs, electronic ignitions, overdrive gears, 750 bores, and 277 degree re-phase.
