Q: why is this cheaper than the normal version? makes me wonder if this is a defective one?

I thought this too but I bought them and they seem to be fine, must just be different companies deciding to sell them at different prices so they sell faster.

Q: Are these velour ear cups?

Yes, as far as I know all of the DT770s, DT880s and DT990s come with velour cups apart from one exception - the 32 Ohm variant of the DT770.

Q: I have a Bose sound system (cd). And want a set of headphones to use with that,are these any good for home use,and is there plenty of cable with them?

Good for indoor and outdoor due to it noise dampening cushion. Straight Cable's 3 meter, works well on mine, depending on your setup.
