I got this for my daughter (3 years old) who has had a really hard time sleeping for the last few weeks. After doing everything I can to calm her before bed, all my efforts have failed. So, I hard about velarian root and came to Amazon looking for a purchase. I came across this and a couple other brands and read so many mixed reviews, but I decided to give it a go anyway. On the first night, I opened the bottle and examined it and gave it a little taste test of my own - it’s not terrible. I have it to my daughter about an hour before bedtime, and that night she actually slept through the entire night and went to sleep with ease. It’s absolutely awesome. She takes it by the dropper straight from the bottle, we don’t mix it in any drinks or anything. She takes it like an absolute champ. Like I said, it doesn’t taste bad persay, just earthy. She takes who droppers orally and doesn’t grimace one bit and looks forward to it. Sure, it doesn’t tase like an ice cream cone.. it’s a new taste for a child so sure yours may grimace at first. It’s a new taste. It’s got a mild sweetlike after taste that’s pleasant. I’m so glad I found this because I am not a fan of giving my child medicines unless it’s absolutely necessary. So this holistic alternative is exactly what she needed. It calms and soothes her and allows her to have a restful sleep. I’m you’re on the fence, just go for it. You can mix it with a drink if you’d child doesn’t like it - if I had to go that route I would probably mix it in a little medicine cap with some honey (if they’re old enough for honey) and have her take it that way. But thankfully she enjoys it enough to just gobble it down. Good luck parents! Cheers to a full nights sleep!

My 7-year-old daughter was diagnosed with Separation Anxiety Disorder. It is a type of anxiety that makes her very anxious, nervous and unsettled. It is especially bad in the evenings. Occasionally, I am able to help her overcome whatever fears or anxiety she has, but in 99% of the time she ends up having major nervous breakdowns and hours of crying. It is very disturbing and saddening not only for her but for the rest of the family as well to helplessly witness these severe anxiety attacks. Ever since she started taking the Valerian drops, our lives changed! The fear/anxiety is almost noon-existent and on the evenings it is there, it is much milder and easily manageable. My proof that the drops are working came when we ran out of them and I decided not to reorder as I thought she had outgrown the disorder. Towards the second week of her not using the drops the major nervous meltdowns began again. Her 9-year-old sister noticed that "something had happened again to her little sister, causing her to act the way she did and it wasn't fun to be around her". What could we do to help her? It struck me that it was the drops we weren't using so I reordered them again. Within a few days of intake (I only administer a doze once a day), she came back to "normal". She has been taking them for almost 6 months now and we are all happy. Since there are no side effects and no harm, I plan to continue giving them to her at least for another 6 months.

Over time, it made a great difference helping my anxious girls calm down and sleep better. I give only 1-2 doses a day, depending how they feel. We left it behind on a long vacation and noticed the difference and wished we hadn't. Update. Another year, still using as needed. I gave another star because when a full scale fit/anxiety attack is on it helps in a reasonable time (by the clock, not by how a mom feels). It works better for us than other natural products we've tried. Tip- taste is okay in a bit of juice or flavored water. I'm not sure how many kids enjoy the taste but things that tasted better didn't work. From other reviews, it seems like it works well for at least 3 of 4 kids so try it.

First let me start with this: If you do your research before buying an unknown herb online you will not only be better educated but save some money and yourself from disappointment. Also, don't be a dumb parent and give your kid something random without knowing the effects and side effects first. EVERYONE IS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SMELL. IF YOU DO YOUR RESEARCH YOU WOULD KNOW THAT VALERIAN NATURALLY HAS A POTENT ODOR THAT IS UNAPPEALING. SO THOSE REVIEWS ARE NOT VALID. ALSO, YOU ARE SUPPOSE TO USE VALERIAN FOR 2 WEEKS IN ORDER TO GIVE IT TIME TO REGULARLY ENTER THE BODY AND MAKE A DIFFERENECE. I get if your kid doesn't like the taste, or the smell is too difficult to endure. You do what is best for YOUR KID. But do your research beforehand people... cmon... ANYWAYS I bought this product for my 18 month old who has spent weeks waking up in the middle of the night screaming in hopes it would help him sleep better. He also has always had trouble falling asleep and we never can get him down before 9 o clock and then he wakes up all night multiple times. I have been using this for about 2 or 3 weeks now and have not noticed a change. In fact it has gotten worse. SIDE EFFECTS FROM VALERIAN ARE RARE BUT INCLUDE, HEAD ACHES, AND UPSET STOMACHS, ABNORMAL HEARTBEATS AND INSOMNIA. IN ADULTS, I HAVE READ IT CAN EVEN CAUSE VERY VIVID DREAMS. The effects are rare so I decided to take a chance. After it not working, and realizing that my son w as s suffering from tummy aches on the nights he took it, I did speak with my pediatrician and she said VALERIAN ROOT IS NOT RECOMMENDED IN CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE. So we have stopped giving it to him, his sleep has not returned completely to normal but as stated above he has always had sleep problems.

I purchased this product a long while ago out of concern for my 9 year old son who has had trouble falling and staying asleep since birth. He has sensory processing disorder, anxiety, and ADD. At age 5 we started using melatonin nightly and bedtime went from 2 hours battles and tears...to fifteen minutes and bliss! He would sleep then for several hours.then crawl in bed with u. Over the n last few years he has slowly started not staying asleep as long..waking after two hours and multiple times through the night since he has to sleep in his own bed. Hebhas a lot of anxiety at night. I saw this product and tried it at first during the daytime during an anxiety attack he was having when he was extremely emotional and could not calm down. I was impressed with how quickly he calmed down and was able to talk through his thoughts. I decided to try it on a particular night when he was having trouble falling asleep even with the melatonin. He slept for five hours! We have given it to him nightly for the past five nights and last night he slept all night!!!! Woke up calm and refreshed. I am amazed. I cannot remember the last time he slept all night. Nightwaking for him is the norm and not the occassional. His doctor is very aware of his sleep issues. I am an experienced nurse and was wanting to avoid strong prescriptive medications as long as we could. He has a new confidence as well since he is sleeping all night! I am planning to discuss this with our doctor next week..but am so thrilled he can get the benefit of the longer and deeper sleep! giving this 4 stars...have not taken it long-term yet so we'll see. No problem with taste. I have been giving herbal ecinachae drops since toddlerhood so they're used to the taste.

I've tried liquid valerian before for my children. One of my children has issues with anxiety not very often, so I like keeping this handy for him. It works great and he has no side effects, which is nice because all that happens is that the anxiety goes away. Another child has hyper tendencies, again not very often, but issues seem to arise when she needs to be calm and focus....(ie like school work!)so these drops really help in that area sometimes. They have no trouble with just 1 dropperful in a small glass of water. I also like the fact that this herb is not addictive. Even though my kids do not take this on a regular basis, I am thankful that this product is there for them when they do need help.

Giving one star because this did not work for my now 2 year old. I bought this hoping for some calming effect for a trip to the beach for 2 weeks when she was 18 months. After trying it at different times and different ways since then, with water, diluted juice, straight, there was a difference in her behavior for the worse, each time she would get highly irritable and fussy. Did not notice a difference in her sleep. The smell is like decaying body, "stinky feet" is a complement. When I would give this to her she'd look at me like "really? not this stuff again" and DO NOT GET IT ON YOUR CLOTHES or you will smell like you haven't bathed in weeks. Whew!

We have used this product for years and it really helps soothe our autistic daughter. Many people do not realize that it is harder for autistic children to fall asleep, or stay asleep, so this product has been wonderful. It tastes better than many other herbal products. I would like to keep buying this product. Unfortunately, they keep increasing the price over and over. We are now paying TWICE what we paid for this stuff a few years ago. I hope that they lower their prices before another company makes a fair-priced alternative.
