Taylor Wall Thermometer and Humidity Guide, Wireless Thermometer with Easy to Read Large Numbers for Patio, Pool, and Indoor Areas, 13.25-inch, Black

My husband is totally disabled and likes to look out the window to see what the temperature is outside. I had an outdoor thermometer on the tall fence for years, but my husband kept complaining it was too small. So he looked on Amazon and found this one and had me order it. We both love it’s large numbers that are easy see, even at a decent distance.

This review is for Taylor Extra Large Metal Wall Indoor Outdoor Thermometer, Easy to Read Numbers for Patio, Pool, and Indoor Areas, 18 inch, White. I bought it February 2025. I needed an outdoor thermometer at my remote cabin's front porch large enough to be able to read it with my front porch Ring doorbell camera when I am away. And one that does not need batteries as it gets cold there. The distance between camera and thermometer is probably five feet. Previously, I bought a 12-in diameter thermometer but the numbers were not that clear on-camera especially at night with just the porch light on, and, although I could figure the numbers out, the thermometer needle itself was too skinny at the business end to see where it was actually pointing. (Maybe the newest generation ring doorbell camera has sharper resolution, dunno.) This 18-inch diameter outdoor thermometer, however, did the trick. Not only are the numbers unmistakable huge but its red needle is wide enough at the business end that I can always see where its pointing when looking at it via my Ring doorbell camera. As far as accuracy goes, I placed it on my cabin's front porch just above a small traditional mercury thermometer that was already there, in order to compare the two readings. I waited a few hours to let this new thermometer acclimate and the two thermometers are reading identically and still do over a course of several days. This means I won't need to return it! I'm glad it's accurate because this 18-inch thermometer has no way to calibrate it; it's a very simple flat-spring coil on the back, as you can expect. I'm surprised this thermometer has to cost a whopping 50 bucks when it looks and feels so lightweight and simple but whatcha gonna do? All in all, I spent the money, got what I wanted: A large round thermometer that is easy-to-read through my doorbell Ring camera. And is accurate. Hooray.

Love it can see from a distance

My thermometer runs consistently about 4 degrees too low, whether I've used it inside during the winter or outside. There is no way to adjust it. My other complaint is, now that I'm using it outside, light from the surrounding environment reflects off the face of the thermometer rendering it unreadable at a distance. I do like the size, and that's why I bought it. A 10/7/2023 update. I unmounted the thermometer from my fence and was able to figure out how to adjust the thermometer. It now reads VERY close to the actual outside temperature. The readability problem is still there but I can probably build a shroud to eliminate the reflections.

Here is what I sent to customer service below in quotations when I received a replacement but I never got a reply from anyone. I wanted to know why the hygrometer was so inaccurate. Instead, I was sent another of these thermometers that also didn't work right and was inaccurate. I now have three of them! "I received the new unit. Thank you, for your prompt service. Taylor packed it very well but the post office still managed to crush the box. When I opened it the plastic face plate had a crack in the middle of it. That's not a big problem as I could replace that with the face plate from the old one and they are not air tight anyway. The problem is that the hygrometer is not accurate. When it's raining out and the humidity is 100%, it shows as 60%. The temperature is pretty close but the reason I bought that particular unit was for the hygrometer and it reads 40% on the low side always. Do you have any unit with the hygrometer that is accurate? I'm not happy with this one. "Then I sent them this email "The design of this device really needs improving. As you can see from the attached picture the humidity needle gets caught behind the temperature needle at certain weather incidences. By not having a complete circle on the humidity gauge you cannot see all possible humidities and the needle will get hung up. The humidity gauge stops at 40% but none of them read accurately. I looked on Taylor's website and all of this style with hygrometers are half dials and the needle will get hung up at some point. Have you had any other complaints regarding this style of thermometers? I just wanted to know if anyone else is having problems with them with the inaccuracy and the humidity needle getting stuck behind the temperature needle. Please don't send me anymore of these as they don't work correctly. I have three of them. Just looking for some answers. I hope that this constructive criticism is useful. Do you have a new design that works correctly?" It's been six weeks and counting since I sent this email to customer service and I'm not holding my breath waiting for a response. Thank goodness at least they didn't send me another one of these useless thermometers. This is the first one star review I've ever written but they deserve it! Precision....what a laugh!

the thermometer is fine, but the packaging was sloppy. i had bought slippers, gloves and this thermometer, and the big box it arrived in was loosely packaged, with the shoes and the slippers on the thermometer plastic front. so the thermometer plastic cover had come undone from the thermometer housing, and the slippers and gloves were on the plastic cover. the plastic cover is a little blemished with scratches. it certainly could have been packaged better that it was, the items were very loose in the box. and, the manufacturer could have covered the thermometer packaging with some kind of shrink wrap to protect the plastic thermometer cover. but it will work, no one is going to get close to the thermometer to notice the scratches and blems on the thermometer housing cover.

Pretty cheap construction. Looks like it was hot glued together. Plastic everywhere. Breaks easily if dropped. Good readout though and haven't found a better alternative. Probably should be priced $10-$20 lower.
