I wanted a gate to keep my dog out of two carpeted bedrooms but I wanted them to be easily moved out of the way when not needed. As my dog is older and not so determined to get to a place anymore, I didn't need anything super sturdy. I had two of the more traditional kind of gates (kept in a doorway by tension, not hardware) but when I didn't need them they had to lean against a wall or try to fit them in a closet. I wanted something that just "disappeared." These retractable gates fit my requirements perfectly! They are very easy to install. They come with a template for the mounting hardware placement but I found it easier to just measure. They are easy to open and close with two hands but are a little awkward, but doable, with one hand. I cannot speak to how durable or resistant they would be for someone or something that was determined to get through (or over) them, but they work well as a deterrent. I have had them installed for about 4 months now and open and close them nearly every day and they still work great. I would definitely recommend these and I would buy them again if the need arises.

Have had it installed for a while now and love it! So glad to have this instead of the bulky metal bars with weird latches. People often ask where I got it. There are things to consider. A small animal or child could squeeze under it if determined to. If you are using this for tiny children at the top of stairs, do not recommend. It is a mesh gate after all and doesn't have supports at the bottom. When locked, it does make it harder but still possible. It is at the top of my stairs for older pets so less of a concern but know it's possible. The knob lock works fine but the knob can be a little tough to lift and turn sometimes. Larger hands might struggle more. Other reviews have mentioned snapping the latch parts or pulling them out of the wall. No issue here but if using in a really high traffic area with constant use and being rough when opening/closing the screen, could surely happen. Do need to hold it as you close it or it will snap back and probably break. Maybe not perfect in a super busy area with rough use or at top of stairs for little ones. Works super great for our needs!

Best gate ever. Easy to install I did it by myself. Love the stick on paper markers showing were to place screws. We purchased for our deck exits my husbands dog is blind we were using boards to prevent him from falling down stairs and ramp, the gates work so much better and look awesome.

We got this gate installed to keep our dog from going upstairs. It is wonderful. It kind of reminds me of a roller shade except stronger. The materials are good quality and look to be sturdy. It easily pulls across the stair entrance and hooks to the wall. We put the hardware on the wall and the hooks on the stair edge and I could not have asked for a better gate and it's way easier than the traditional gates that are a pain to open and close. I wish they made a slightly smaller one as well since some of my walls have trim at the bottom and chair rail. But I am going to buy a few more of them. One for the dogs and one for my husband to keep him from sleep walking downstairs. I can see this would be great for dogs or kids. I would watch babies because it is mesh and I am not sure if the bottom is super tight but it is strong. My dog doesn't even bother trying to go upstairs now. I absolutely feel this is worth every penny because traditional gates are so hard to open and close and this is a breeze!!! When you are not using it, it neatly just retracts and it's very strong as I stated previously. It's so easy for my 9 year old and 19 year old to open and close.

Great gate

We bought this as a dog gate for a growing puppy, and picked extra tall for a larger dog. I think this gate would be great for kids. We loved that it's retractable and easy to install, and the locking mechanism makes it a bit more rigid. I think this would be great for separating spaces for kiddos. However, this is also billed as a dog gate and there's where we go wrong. If you have a dog that can get his paws over the top of this gate, doesn't even have to be a misbehaving dog, just one that's excited, a dog's weight will render this gate pretty useless, especially at the bottom of stairs. The locking mechanism helps a little to make it more rigid but it's no match for an excited dog. I don't think this should be billed as a dog gate, or at least, it should be made clear that it should be for smaller dogs only. It's not strong enough to hold even a mid-sized dog back. If, when your dog jumps, his paws are taller than the gate, this gate will not work for you. UPDATE: the makers of this gate offered me a full refund after reading my review, which certainly doesn't fix the product, but still goes a long way in my book, in a time where I consider customer service is a form of currency. I didn't ask for a refund, they didn't have to offer it, and it was very appreciated, especially around the holidays. I added another star just for the customer service.

I bought these gates for my dogs. I have 2 clever puppies. And they will test a gate and find the flaws! These look good and are not bulky at all! They lock with a quarter turn of the knob and unlock by lifting the know and a quarter turn back. Very easy. Comes with a great cut sheet that you can tape to your wall and know EXACTLY where to place your screws. 8 screws (supplied) and your done! I don't know if they are intended for outside but I have one on my deck to keep my buddies safe and in eye range and I have not had any issues at all. It's gone through all 4 seasons (Live in the NorthEast) along the shore so you can't ask for any worse conditions and they still work and look as good as new. I gently hit it with the 'ol pressure washer and it looks good as new after a super nasty pollen season! I have no hesitation when I tell you to BUY BUY BUY!! Just come back and thank me later. Also you can see im a real life Buyer. The best bang for the buck here on Amazon for sure! I'm just mad how much money I wasted on crap gates before I found this one. And before you ask ... My Corgies have tested the gate. They can't sneak under or push through! But my lord did they try. They thought I bought another pushover chocho gate like the last time. My Bucky and Pepper have given up on trying to defeat these gates ! Plus these are just a few screws. So no major permanent damage to deal with when you feel it's time for them to come down. Some gates are so overcomplicated and wreck your home installing or removing them. These gates have stood the test of time.
