How would this work for a 55 gallon tank

Absolutely not. I bought this filter for a small temporary tank with only 4 inches of water in it for my hatchling. I don’t know your set up, but turtles are messy and require 2-3 times the filtration power of fish. I went to a 30 gallon high tank, filled it 90% and ordered an aquaclear 70 filter; they’re among the very best. It filters 300 gallons an hour, over kill, but you can adjust it to half that without burning out the motor. If you have any questions or would like to communicate, my email is psrjlr@aol.com Pete
