Photive DK1 Desktop Bluetooth Speaker Open Box

This is a nice, stylish bluetooth speaker for my living room. I love the sleek design and ease of use. It also comes with a handy remote. It can handle any type of music and the musical tastes in my household varies from hip hop to gospel and classical. There are also many ways to connect to the speaker besides just via bluetooth so we can listen to all of our devices.

Overall, I really like this speaker. It gets loud and has good sound quality. And it fits the small space I have. The biggest downside is that it randomly shuts off. I will in the middle of watching a movie, play a games, or various other tasks while there is active sound playing, and then it just shuts off. I thought it was a timer at first, so I tracked it and I found completely random time intervals. Even tried messing with the settings, but nothing fixed it.

Sound quality is great for the price but the remote changes from bluetooth to aux every time you point it at the speaker. It also shouts POWER ON- BLUETOOTH- CONNECTED at full volume which is super annoying. I changed my rating from a 3 to a 1 star, remote doesn't work at all and the volume won't go up or down using the buttons on the speaker.

Made in China - Lacks low range bass, and no equalizer so you can't even adjust the frequency volumes. Returned the product. #1 - No equalizer adjustment - I was really annoyed by this, because due to #2 - lack of bass, it made certain annoying sounds in music pop out more. Because this speaker is so medium frequency heavy and not well balanced, I can notice sounds in music that sticks out like a sore thumb especially in beats, when they should be more smoothly rounded by bass frequencies. It is incredibly annoying to me that I can not adjust the sound frequencies to make the sounds smoother and to my liking. I mean, c'mon there are certain equalizer settings that can improve the soundstage of certain music and this thing is not even allowing it's consumers the option of customizing the sound to their liking? I'd expect this from cheapo $20 bluetooth speakers, but not something costing nearly $100. #2 - Lacks Bass ranges: Not sure why this got so many positive reviews, but even my over 10 year old logitech computer speakers has a more complete sound range than this. When I first turned it on I gave it a chance, I mean the high and mid frequency sounded decent and crisp, however I immediately noticed the tight bass and realized it was using the low mid ranges as bass. It totally lacks any bass frequency as you will notice the ground does not vibrate. I'm not looking for earth shattering bass, but it is extremely noticeable and somewhat annoying when I'm used to hearing different bass ranges in music and then I hear the speaker trying to output bass sounds using a midrange driver, but it only manages a tight thumping sound as if that is supposed to be what bass sounds like. It does not seem to be able to express the full range of bass frequencies, and only knows how to output tight thumps which totally kills the music for me. #3 - no surround sound emulation - The speaker is very directional and there is no surround sound emulation to fill the room in a balanced way. It's like listening to things with only a center speaker.

This was a great speaker until it stopped working. The sound was fantastic and it paired without a hitch to any device I tried, but after 3 weeks it will not turn back on. I'm returning it and not sure if I'll try another one or not. For the price it's fantastic, so I'll try again and update this review based on the replacement.

I always seem to have connection issues with Bluetooth speakers. I think I just have horrible luck with that. I connected to this speaker immediately. That was already a huge plus in my book. It sounds amazing too. Just by the way it is packaged and designed you can tell it is a quality product. Big, big fan of this speaker.

Works good and easy to install but for some reason does not stay on. It turns off automatically. I cannot find how to make it stay on. Sounds is very good.

Bought this speaker less than a year ago. The remote control stopped working and now the speaker is useless. Can’t find anywhere that you can buy a replacement remote.
