Excellent for managing incursions by tiny flying insects
I originally bought this zapper to hang in our unfinished basement, where we see the occasional trapped paper wasp in the spring. It's not super great for attracting and killing wasps (and they're large, meaty insects, so they get stuck in the grilles), but it's been a lifesaver for dealing with the small, annoying gnats common in our region throughout the hot summer months. I unplugged this zapper over the winter, and didn't realize just how useful it was until I wasn't using it anymore. I was seeing multiple gnats daily, driving me mad with their zippy little flying around my face and workspace. We thought they were fruit flies, but after removing all possible food sources (and failing to trap any with wine broken with dish soap), I realized they were coming in from the outdoors at night and getting trapped. This thing has launched an all-out massacre on the gnats who set up camp in my basement. I still do see the occasional gnat, and when I clean the tray, I have to be careful to vacuum it out as I remove it, because there are invariably a few survivors jumping around among the dead, but overall, I am really happy with this zapper's performance. If you use it outside, it's going to get gross very quickly, so keep that in mind. If you plan on using it in a screened-in porch or other enclosed area, however, it's great for killing common small flying insects. The white plastic panels covering the sides have small enough holes that this zapper doesn't seem to be very good for large-bodied insects like wasps and houseflies, but it's definitely a winner if you have a lot of very small insects giving you grief in the summer.

No brainer indoor bug killer
I haven't had one bite, nor needed to make one targeted swat, since installing this. Mosquitoes love me, and naturally I hate them. When they end up finding their way into my apartment they must die. I got tired of trying to catch and kill each individually (it takes time and there are inevitable failures)... plus there are always more on the way. So I decided to invest in a passive solution. I've always had a bit of a negative perspective on bug zappers. The bright light, the loud pop. Well I've had this one sitting on top of my refrigerator for several weeks and never heard one pop and the light isn't glaring... the glow even makes for an OK kitchen night light honestly. It's killing all the bugs too. Not just mosquitoes. The removable tray has dead critters in it every time that I take it out to clean it. Installation is as simple as opening the box, placing/hanging this somewhere, plugging it in, turning it on. Would recommend to anyone looking to cull the population of small flying insects.

Dose not attract or zap common flies.
I don't do a lot of reviews, but this product needed one. I am using this indoors to combat the common flies coming from neighbors back yard from dog mess. The flies stay away from this "bug zapper" like Superman would stay away from kryptonite! I've been running this so called "bug zapper" 24hrs a day and I am yet to see or hear it work once. I have owned bug zapper in the past which would take care of flies but I wanted something compact, which this device is. Also the light bulb has a cool blue hue to it, not like the traditional purple looking lights. I don't know if thats what's keeps the flies away from it or not. If it would have worked it would have been a great value at the low price point. The "bug zapper" dose seem to be well made and It comes with a chain to hang it and an extra bulb in the box which was thoughtful of Black & Decker. Bottom line is it did not work for me so I'm contemplating returning it, it's only 18 bucks but I feel like I was bamboozled. I'm not knocking Black & Decker as a company, actually my family and I have purchased their products in the past and we we're pleased with them for the most part, but I think this product certainly missed the mark and fell well below my expectations. (The 1 star is for how it worked for me not the construction of the device.)

Works great, but may not last long
I bought a 2-pack of these zappers in December 2022. One just stopped working, so it lasted about 13 months. But it was really great while it lasted. I have one on my patio. (Do NOT place this next to a door, as moths will congregate near it. I learned that the hard way!) During the summer, I was cleaning it out weekly. After brushing the zapping element, the cup catcher on the bottom would usually have bugs about a 1/2” deep, mostly mosquitoes and small moths. Also, it’s quiet, so you won’t hear that (satisfying) “zap” sound. I just wish it lasted longer. I will probably buy this again, with lower expectations.

Best Bug Zapper
This is our second Black & Decker bug zapper. We ran our last one almost two years in a row before one of the bulbs went out. Bought a replacement bulb and decided to put the other one outside and get a new one for the kitchen. It has a nice clean look, especially for the kitchen. We use it when we have a lot of foot traffic out the back door to the pool, and we get flys in the house. Super easy to clean! Makes a great night light too 🤣

Jury Is Still Out On This Zapper!
We live in Texas and it's HOT here! Here come the house flies! So we have had a serious house fly infestation this year. Fly swatters don't work; those wily flies evade, evade, evade. I bought Raid Flying Insect spray.... that works for about 4-6 hours and then they are back in full force. Raid, of course, is a chemical and toxic to humans and pets so I do not like using a chemical. I stopped using Raid because of the toxicity and the fact it was only lasting a few hours. In desperation, I purchased this Black&Decker indoor bug zapper. It is larger than I thought and the lights (2 UV florescent tubes) are much brighter than I thought they would be. It was supposed to come with a cleaning brush for the grid (execution chamber) but it didn't include it. Bummer. It's also not a B&D product although branded as such under license. The zapper is made in China by a company called "Umba Group." However, there is a U.S. 800 number for B&D listed in the instruction manual. The zapper is made, almost entirely out of high quality plastic. So how does it work? Well, I set it up about 6 feet off the floor; I needed to buy an extension cord as the supplied cord was not long enough. Plugged it in and the lights shone brightly even in full daylight. At night it is quite bright but not distractingly so. Before we started using this, I was constantly being bothered by flies, swatting at them, waving them away, etc. Just six hours after we plugged it in for the first time, blessed relief! The flies were no longer using me and my wife as airport runways! Now, the occasional fly zeroes in, but they seem anemic and I can easily kill them with my hand. This all sounds GREAT, right? Maybe. Because to date, after 3 days of operation, I only found 4 dead flies in the tray. I gaurentee that there were dozens and dozens of flies flying around before. Where did they go? I can only hypothesize that the zapper is doing SOMETHING?! Maybe it is stunning them and they go off and die somewhere? Regardless, I'm no longer being bombarded by flies and the relief is palpable! I will update this as needed as this is only day 3.

We had a fly problem. Had.
We live in a very hot climate and last week I probably killed 5-10 flies per day using old fashioned tools (magazines, etc.). Could not figure out where they were all coming from. Within 48 hours of getting this zapper our fly numbers have dropped to nearly zero. My wife thinks I am having too much fun with this thing. Maybe she's right. The crackle-pop is quite satisfying. One thing I would caution is that if you have a very sensitive smoke detector you might trigger it accidentally. Some flies stick to the grid after getting zapped and kind of start smoldering for 30-60 seconds and it produces some smoke. So I don't leave the thing on when I leave the house, just in case. But this zapper overall is highly effective and looks good to boot. One of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

Nice that they give you two, but together the are still not as good as one of a different brand.
I bought a different brand bug zapper that was about the same size, and it died after 7 months, so a tried this bug zapper. It is really much quieter, but it sometimes does not kill the bug; they just fall into the bottom collector tray and flap what is left of their wings. About a month getting this zapper, I was contacted by the first manufacturer who seemed very concerned that their zapper had failed, and they sent me a replacement so for a while I had two zappers going in my basement; because of animals, we need to keep the trash in the basement, and we get a good number of gnat sized flies. I had one of these Black & Decker zappers mounted about 5 feet from the trash bags and I hung the replacement unit about 25 feet away. The older replacement unit is very loud and really "zaps" the bugs, and there are at least 10 times as many dead flies under the replacement, non-Black & Decker zapper. This Black & Decker unit just died after 8 months so I am really not happy with it. I had placed the second unit in the basement of my other house that has field stone walls and lots of critter problems. The second house is not close, so it has been 3 months since I last saw that Black & Decker unit working which was 2 months after I first put it up. I closed that house up for the winter and it was not zapping the bugs anymore, but the bulb was still working so a spider had set up shop on the electric grid; I tried cleaning it, but still no "zaps". Of the two Black & Decker units, 1/10 the number of dead files and one unit operated for 8 months and the other 5 months, so not good performance or life span, but the zappers are much quieter than a competitive zapper. Other than less noise and a good, small size, I don't have anything I like about the Black & Decker zappers. I hope the other brand zapper keeps working, because it really does a much better job of killing the flies.

Died in less than one year
Didn't even last one year before the light failed. I installed a new light, but that didn't work. This means the ballast is what failed. In my opinion, a name brand should use higher quality parts that don't fail within one year.

Works Great
This bug zapper only has 1 draw back. It has a short cord (about 2 feet long) which means you have to use an extentsion cord to plug it in. it has zapped a few bugs so far but it should get a work out in June when the the bugs are out in full force. Overall happy with this purchase.
