Shockingly Heavy Duty – Seals Tight Against Fumes & Dust
I ordered this blast gate knowing it was listed as aluminum, but honestly, I wasn't expecting it to be this heavy-duty. Usually, when you order metal fittings online, you expect something lightweight or thin. When I opened the box, I was genuinely shocked by the weight of it. This isn't just a standard metal piece; it is solid, thick, and feels industrial. Most importantly, the seal is incredibly tight. In my shop, I'm not just worried about sawdust; I need to know that fumes and carbon aren't leaking back through the system. This gate closes off completely, giving me peace of mind that nothing is passing through when it shouldn't. It operates smoothly, seals perfectly, and is a massive upgrade in quality compared to what I thought I was getting..

sturdy blast gate
I bought this for using on a new dust collection system I set up for woodworking. The gate works well and the slide stays where you put it.

Great product, better than plastic blast gates
After upgrading dust collection from a 2 1/2" shop vac to a proper dust collection system, I bought these aluminum blast gates and they work great. No suction loss, easy to install, and most importantly, no more clogged gates! For those saying that they leak like a sieve....they do not. The issue most likely is that the user installed them backward. With the direction of air flow being toward the dust collector, the knob to lock the blast gate down should be facing opposite the dust collector (meaning the side with the locking knob needs to be facing away from the collector and toward the machine/tool in reference to air flow). The reason for this is that when the knob is screwed down, it pushes the gate toward the housing creating a seal on the side opposite of the knob. If this installation is reversed, then there will be an air gap, which will cause suction loss. This is not a design flaw, rather, it is very purposeful in order to get great suction without having to use a gasket which would make the operation of closing/opening the gate a pain.

Great gate
No complaints but so far they haven't clogged and work well. They have some air leakage when closed but that's to be expected

Work great
These blast gates seem really well built, and were quite simple to install. Make sure to have the locking knob away from the suction so when it's closed the gate will suck up against that side for a tighter seal. It would have been nice for the round flanges where the 4" hose or duct fastens to be a bit longer so you could seal with tape first and then connect with a hose clamp, but I guess you could seal that connection with silicone if that was a concern. Also make sure you have clearance on both sides of the blast gate to allow for it to slide open and closed.

Decent blast gate, but I like the tighter fitting plastic units better
A decent blast gate for the money. A couple of complaints: It's a little loose, enough so that you couldn't mount it vertically; otherwise, the gate would slide shut as soon as you opened it and let go. With it mounted sideways, it still works its way slightly open. It needs a detent on close and open. When closed, you can still hear vacuum leaks. I would recommend the tighter-fitting plastic units over this one.

So much better than plastic
I had constructed my dust collector system with plastic blast gates and I have to say that they clogged almost immediately. Sawdust gets trapped where the gate slides down and the gate can't close properly. That doesn't happen with these metal gates. They work beautifully.

Robust
Functionally better than plastic ones - don’t get blocked. Not a good fit for standard 63 mm connectors

Let too much air through in open position
The back part of these gates are not closed (maybe to prevent dust buildup like what happens in the cheap plastic blast gates?) ... but that means when the gate is in the open position that it's also not sealed which hurts the suction. Not ideal at all, might as well have just continued using the plastic ones that I cut the bottom off of to prevent them jamming up with dust, because these do the same thing. Most metal blast gates have a much longer gate, so if this is what you're looking for these are NOT the ones you want.
