Often overlooked and underestimated in their importance to your drivetrain, front derailleurs do the big job of shifting your big gears. The adjustment of the front derailleur is one of the areas of bicycle maintenance that is as much art as it is science. Then there's the design and construction of a front derailleur like the Campagnolo Super Record RS Front Derailleur that takes both to a completely new level. The RS is based largely on the Super Record 11 front derailleur, itself previously thought to be essentially as close to mechanical shifting perfection as was possible. In fact, the front shifting performance of the Super Record system was a primary focus of develop for the RS revisions, and while most wouldn't have thought there would be much room for further refinement, Campy's engineers, mechanics, and pro-racers disagreed. Witness the new RS front derailleur. Accommodating both standard (53/39-tooth) and compact (50/34-tooth) chainring combinations, the RS's alloy cage was revised to be even stiffer than the Super Record carbon model, for even faster and more precise shift action, all without much of a weight penalty. Precise trimming of the derailleur's exact position is still possible to reduce chain rub, while overall shifting efficiency has improved in conjunction with the RS crankset's more finely-tuned chainring tooth profiles and shift ramps. The Campagnolo Super Record RS Front Derailleur comes in three versions: braze-on, 32mm clamp, and 35mm clamp. It can handle a maximum 54 tooth chainring and a maximum large/small ring differential of 16 teeth.
