Pleasantly surprised by performance on GMRS on VW Vanagon
VW Vanagons with the poptop have a fiberglass roof, so the typical situation where you need a no ground plane antenna. I ordered this based on spec, thinking "would be nice to have something that covers ham too" for when I get my ham license. At this point I'm a bit surprised how good something designed to handle 3 bands works on the one I want. NEEDS for me were no ground plane, GMRS frequency support and a spring as the van is already high. I recommend having an SWR meter or better yet something like the NanoVNA antenna analyzer because you don't get good SWR by accident mounting it anywhere. It took me a fair amount of time to find this spot and experiment. I had planned on mounting it at the back but closer to my roof rack made SWR spike like crazy. The biggest "ahah" was that adding a small 3x3 steel plate between the antenna and the mount made a world of difference. Ignore the bend in the picture.. that's just something I had handy. Got the SWR down from 2.5 to 1.2 including the cable after installing this plate (at 465Mhz). I'm very lucky to have a great repeater in my area (Denver) and I have been able to hit it clear as a bell 40 miles away.

Awesome antenna!
I needed an antenna that was short enough to allow me enter my garage, yet still useable for local repeater/wires-x/simplex QSOs. What a lifesaver this antenna was! Short...great reception on 2M and 70cm bands with low SWR.

Great Antenna
Great product. See photos for SWR plots. Great performance overall.

It works great
Antenna works great. Its pretty heavy and the base is very large. Looks a little odd on a mag mount but the swr is good in vhf and uhf. God very good range with a 25 watt radio

This antenna is VERY ruggedly built and is exactly the right size for the application. I'm only using on VHF and UHF through a Comet duplexer and if the need arises will be adding a triplexer for 900MHz. Time will tell...

Works great.
Been great. I use it mostly for gmrs but listen to ham bands.

Working really good thank y’all

Great antenna.
Seems to work well. Out performs a VHF 1/4 wave for sure. Be aware, this thing is bulky. It's heavy, too, and the base is bigger than a normal NMO (plastic coil thing at the bottom exceeds the diameter of the NMO. Built solid, but be aware that if you have a chinsey trunk mount or something that isn't solid it probably won't work well. Great antenna.
