Great read
Having purchased the first in the series my Granddaughter asked for this, book 2, because she loved it so much. Would recommend.

Reading it with 11yo boy
Not the usual adventures we read but very well written and descriptive. Really evocative of time and place when the action is in the past Well defined characters. Some nice plot twists . The time travel plot is challenging my son to think some "what if's" . A pleasure to read . My son enjoyed it a lot

Such a good follow on story
This story was everything I expected to be a follow on from the first book. So amazing. I loved reading it to my son every night.

A new modern classic!
This is the perfect adventure story for 7-9 year olds. There’s time travel, a strange illness, magic moles and plenty of new experiences for both modern and Edwardian children. I loved the twist at the end too, plus there’s an extra bit of history in there as well.Well done Karen for being shortlisted, I’m looking forward to your next book.

Even better than 1st book
My 11yo son and I enjoyed this sequel a lot. It’s much longer than the first too.

Perfectly paced and well written
This is one of those rare occasions where the sequel is even better than the first book. This time, the story opens with Emma and Lucy in Edwardian London and their world is made very real, with just the right amount of historical detail. The reader is carried along with the girls' urgent need to get to the future in order to find Stella and Tom again. The suspense and excitement build throughout the story, which is perfectly paced and well written. If you liked The Secret Lake, you'll love this one!

Absolutely Lovely!!!
This was a wonderful sequel to the secret lake. Usually the second book falls flat or is repetitive. This series has become a favorite for my children (10&9). What started as a story time before bed reading instantly sparked an interest in reading for both of my kids, who before this series hated reading time! They are both dyslexic so reading has been a struggle for us. Since starting The Secret lake and Return to we have had days of discussions based around the characters, the time periods and the possible adventures Stella and Tom might have. I love how engaging the characters and the story is.I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series. Having my children passionate about story time and reading has been the greatest reward and this series has played a key role in that! Thank you Karen Inglis for your creativity and for being brave enough to share your delightful stories with us readers!

Kids' relationships make this a five-star book
My daughter and I read this book in a couple of sittings. It's a page-turner. The time travel is well done and a lot of fun. The mysteries are intriguing, and the author's solutions are clever; she handles sensitive subjects with skill. For me, what made the book were the characters. I especially enjoyed the relationships between the kids. They're polite and friendly without being sappy, and there's no bad language or gratuitous bickering between siblings. My daughter said she enjoyed the interaction between the modern-day children and those living in Edwardian times. This book is considerably longer than the first book, The Secret Lake, and might be better for kids closer to 11 or 12 rather than 8 or 9, but that depends on the reader.

exciting read!
Really enjoyed this interesting first sequel..the plot develops quite differently from the Toms Midnight Garden one. This is perfect for tween readers.

Beautifully written
This story engulfed me and inspired me to become author🤗...It is actually beautifully done, designed, and written. If more people knew about this series it would be a best seller!!But sometimes the story would switch too quickly for me to understand..All in all, 4.5/5 stars✔
