Fantastic Canteen For The Money
I've got to tell you, I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this canteen. I've been hiking and camping for over 45 years, and I've tried all the new fancy and up-to-date water bottles and bladders that have come along on the market over the years. When I saw this canteen and it reminded me of my Boy Scout years in the 60s, so I thought I'd give it a whirl. This canteen went beyond my expectations! It doesn't leak at all, it keeps water cold, and best of all it doesn't give water a plastic taste. In fact, to test it out, I kept water in it for over four days and the water tasted as fresh as the day I filled the canteen with absolutely no plastic taste. In addition, this canteen design, which has been time tested in the military, is still one of the most comfortable water bottles to carry while hiking. I would highly recommend this product as an inexpensive, good quality canteen.

The original military canteen!
I like to purchase items that are as close or the same as the ones I used in the military because they are proven to be durable and effective. This canteen is just that, durable and very handy. Its made just as strong as the military issued ones, the caps threads are perfectly aligned to provide a water tight seal and the plastic it's made from is extremely durable. I've dropped it onto concrete, I've placed it in the freezer with a bit too much water and once the water has become ice it has not cracked the canteen, just bulged it a little but as soon as the ice has melted it goes right back to its original shape. Perfect color to match my accessories and it fits perfectly inside my military aluminum cooking can. I can't see any difference from the original military issue. If you find my review to be of help, please click the "helpful" link below. Thanks and always be safe :)

Good for my use
I was a little worried after reading some reviews about how this canteen leaked when it was turned upside down, however the price was low enough that I took a chance anyway. It arrived today and I immediately filled it up to see if mine would be different. I'm pleased to say that it works great! I filled the canteen up and twisted on the cap, snug, but not overly tight, I didn't strain to twist it shut or anything like that. I flipped it upside down and it didn't leak at all, even when I squeezed it. Just to see if I could make the cap leak, I then paced the canteen on the floor and stood on it with one foot (I weigh about 160 pounds) and it still didn't leak at all! The plastic of the canteen body is pretty thick and rigid, seems like it will hold up to some use on a belt. I gave it a 4 star rating because even though I couldn't make the canteen leak, it still lacks a rubber o-ring in the cap. I know I'm being a little picky, but it has been my past experience that many containers eventually leak around their cap/lid with an o-ring of some sort.

Just like Mother Army used to make me drink out of
Brings back memories of the before-time, when I was forced to drink water from one of these about every 11 seconds. This is either the real deal or an excellent and indistinguishable replica. Very sturdy, you could probably run it over with a tank and pick it up and drink from it.Buy a CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, Nuclear) cap for this bad boy, and you can drink out of this, through a tube, from your protective mask during an undead skirmish. This canteen also nests nicely with a GI Canteen Cup. Only problem is, good quality Canteen Cups are almost impossible to find. Most are really bad imitations with metal flaking off of them. If you can find a good one, nest it with this for super Army action.

I thought it was a planter
Since this is a canteen, I decided to put some water in it. I know, I'm weird. But anyway, then I was struck with a real wild idea. I decided to drink some of this water out of the canteen. It took me a few minutes to get the thing open but the water flowed into my mouth almost as if this bastard was made to drink out of!!!!! What will they think of next. Oh yeah, it doesn't leak either. A good canteen. Oh here's a suggestion for the leaking ones. Take some fine sandpaper and sand flat surface of the spout. Most leaks are caused by uneven or leftover manufacturing irregularities. Once spout is smoother than a bowl of jello, put the cap on tightly. Let me repeat, T-I-G-H-T-L-Y. That means to put it on and screw it on tight. If all this work is too much work; after all, we are Americans, then return the infernal canteen. But let this be a lesson. When you have a problem, SOLVE IT. Whining only makes people want to beat your ass---T. McCord

A Reliable Standard
I like it, but think the Nalgene alternative is better. This is reliable and it should stand up to a fair amount of abuse, but for just about the same amount of money, I think the BPA free Nalgene model is a better buy. It is slightly lighter, and it still nests inside a standard GI carrier and inside the GI stainless steel cup, but this is opaque while the Nalgene is semi-transparent. A good thing for when you are outdoors and you want to see what sort of bugs and debris may be floating in your water.I also like being able to see the clarity of the water in the container both before and after filtering. This one may be sturdier than the Nalgene, which is probably why our troops use this instead of the Nalgene, but I don't know that I am going to use it so hard that I will need that extra bulk and weight. I have them both, so I will compare as I use them and update if necessary.

Just fine.
I needed a replacement. Probably could do less money at an army/navy surplus store, but, hey, its cheap, seals well, holds water and fits in the belt pouch.

Same as the PX one
Need it in a pinch and Amazon delivered it on time. Same quality as the one you will find in the PX. Recommended it.
