Is it waterproof for keeping track of swimming laps?

Don't know if it is waterproof. It is all metal & plastic. I can see it being water resistant outside of the water, but possibly not while swimming. Hope that helps!

Is it easy to subtract a single number while counting?

No. Only counts in the positive direction. Cannot subtract.

This might be a stupid question, does the clicker start at 0000? In thee pictures it looks like it starts at 9999 and subtracts down.

When you turn the reset dial, the digits rotate, starting with the first (right) digit, then the second digit, etc... At some point, all four digits will be the same. As you continue turning, the four digits will rotate together as 1111, 2222,....., 8888, 9999, then 0000. So that's how they can take those photos.

Does this come with a clasp to attach to one's clothing (the metal clasp with the plastic part that hooks around- like an ID tag)?

No it is a metal ring but not a clasp of any kind.
