The particular Fiskars model shears with the open-top-handle is really GREAT! I compared it against one of Fiskars' other models (selling out of the same Amazon listing) with fully closed loops for both the top and bottom of the handle, and this one is quite superior, providing more leverage while cutting, therefore it's easier on your hand and muscles, AND more effective at cutting. Plus, the blades are SHARP, and strong. The other Fiskars model wasn't bad at all, it was quite good, it's just that this one is significantly better; and its greater ease of cutting is quite noticeable and comes in handy when cutting cardboard boxes, as I do (from Amazon deliveries!). This design with the open top handle and the wide-loop bottom handle (the latter allows more fingers to hold it) not only provides more cutting leverage, but allows you to get whatever material you're cutting out of your way as you cut further and further into it. I also compared this item with yet another set of shears, that one purchased at Home Depot (made by Wiss), but it was definitely a nice set of shears that did a good job. It's just that this Fiskars model clearly does a better job-- it cuts better, cuts thicker materials, and is much easier to cut with, with more leverage, therefore easier on your hand. I don't know how long these Fiskars will last, what with the open, uncovered spring that I wonder if it might become detached, but I bought three of these-- two more after being so pleased with the first one-- and they all three work equally great. By the way, there is a little plastic piece at the bottom of the handle that locks the two-piece handle together so that the blades stay together when stored. (I can see where that lock could easily become undone, however, but so far, that hasn't happened to me.) This is really a phenomenal product, and I can not only cut through thick cardboard boxes with it (I much prefer using this to a box cutter), I can also cut through double-thickness of those boxes when necessary; though there is a bit more difficulty then. I highly recommend this product for its intended uses. And don't let the unusual look of the handle scare you away-- it's actually one of the great features on this set of shears. (By the way, I was drawn to look at Fiskars shears in the first place by reading some other reviewer's recommendation for them!!-- although, of all places, it was in an Amazon review of a set of screwdrivers, where the reviewer was commenting how difficult it was to open that package of screwdrivers with all of the clear plastic glued to cardboard, but that these Fiskars shears made it a lot easier! Reading that screwdriver set review resulted in my buying three pairs of these Fiskars shears!)

These are great sissors for the kitchen, shop, or arts-crafts area. I bought a pair and liked it so much I gave them to all my kids. Every household should have a good pair of general purpose sissors, and these are a great fit. Mine are used mostly for construction projects and carpet, and they cut well. The blades are stainless steel, good for the kitchen, and the design provides good leverage and easy cutting. The steel from the blades goes through the handle for better support. Also, the blades have micro teeth that help to hold what your cutting in the jaws.

These shears are a must buy! Blown away with the quality of them. Cuts thick cardboard with great ease. Very easy to hold with just one hand cutting. Well worth the cost of them.

Sharp, cuts paper, cardboard, tint, thin aluminum, matts, cloth, just about anything it seems. Haven't had any problems and will possibly outlast me.

These are what a pair of shop scissors/shears should be. They cut cardboard and heavy fabric with ease. I tested them on composite shims and they cut even the thickest part of the shim with no problem. I haven't tried them with carpet but I have no doubt they can cut it well. Not only are the blades heavy and sharp, but the handle design is the best evah! Having a straight top handle instead of a thumb hole handle makes a world of difference in power and comfort over the traditional scissor design. Four fingers go though the bottom handle and then the palm and thumb apply pressure on the top allowing you to put tremendous force on the blades for effortless cutting. I appreciate a well designed quality tool and these Fiskars PowerArc Easy Action Shears are truly a quality tool and a good value based on how precise, comfortable and strong they are. I figure these scissors will last a long time, but should I lose them I will definitely buy them again. They are the kind of tool that makes a good gift too.

These shears work great. They are sharp and strong and seem be sturdy. My only issue is that they are quite large for my hands and a little stiff. Still they cut things, from fabric to branches, far more easily than other sheers.

Was looking for something to cut rug pad. My rug pads are maybe less than half inch? Regular scissors won’t cut at all. Was considering the utility snip but seems like that’s for smaller stuff. These shears work well for thicker fabric material. Surprised how big it was. See picture compared to regular “large” size scissors. Have used fisker products in the past and am pleased with this one as well.

These are some heavy duty scissors! If you are looking for shears that feel like they can cut through anything, these are the ones. I also love the handle design because it allows for a better grip and the ability to put more power into the cut. Also very sharp!
