I've used tone generators for decades to sound out wires for HVAC and electrical work. This was a well priced replacement for my Tempest - the inductive pick up stopped working. This is an essential tool that if not familiar to you requires some getting used to and once understood will prove invaluable. Good product- works very well and was bought at a good price.

I retired from telco, and I've gone through many, many of these. They'll come with different names, but this is the 100% same product that $ for the name. Treat it moderately well, and it'll last you forever. *tool trick* #1 When the tone generator battery is fresh it will bleed signal all over the nearby conductors. Instead, switch to the tone function and leave it on the counter overnight. This will tone (pun) it down a bit. After that it'll settle down to a sweet spot. #2 Power check. These toners are capable of recognizing up to 90V ac/dc, and can take 120V for judicious periods. Attatch it to to your item in question? Lit? You have power. #3 Loud or bleeding over situations: With the probe. Place the speaker near your ear, touch the tip with your index finger. Then press 'on' with your finger and adjust the volume with your middle. Using the spare tip, finger, etc. that safety allows, to probe, hear, and isolate. #4 Under ideal conditions, on a hot battery, you can send signal on 24 gauge wire for ~5/8 mile (1km). #5 Fence broken. Tone here/not here. #6 Stereo; will send signal to after amp speakers. Networks (buy a bag of M to M 8 pin couplers to be a hero) and chase cable issues. NOTE: I've tried all of the popular network specific products and this is the consistent best. I always carried 2 of the generators, with the signals set to different tones. Saves Hella amounts of walking. The continuity feature is great for a quick test for a short.

I am color blind and needed to trace some wires and this tool Tracy Ellis Ross made it extremely easy to trace wiring from point A to point B. Simply install purchase and install two 9 volt batteries clip the black wire to a ground and the red wire to the stripped end of a bear electrical wire you are tracing and set the switch to tone then push the button on the chasing one and the closer you get to the electrical wire you are tracing the louder the tone will sound. Of course it has multiple functions including CAT5 ethernet tracing capabilities

This toner kit works well for chasing Cat6 and straight wire. Not as loud as the high dollar ones, but it's making me money!

Didn't work right out of the box. Using brand new batteries, and nothing works. No lights, no sounds. Nothing. Of course, I didn't get around to using it until the 30 day return window was up. I guess for Chaoos!

Awesome troubleshooting tool

This is a very handy tool that hasn’t changed since the 1990’s. Unfortunately it is still designed with nuts and bolts that scatter across the floor when trying to put the battery in it. This device is long past due for an improved version.
