This is the pedal package you want! Do not buy the pedal-only version! (Mac OSX user)
Wow. I usually hire transcriptionists, but I have the occasional need to do one or two myself. Transcriptionists have always told me that they couldn't live without their pedals, and now I know why! I use Mac OSX 10.10.2 on a MacBook Pro Retina. This package came with a CDROM, but I downloaded ExpressScribe from the vendor's site instead to get the latest version. The software registration seemed overly complex but worked smoothly. The pedal installed without requiring any additional drivers. Then I started transcribing a short interview that I needed quickly. The MP3 imported easily. At first the pedals seemed backwards-whoever heard of rewind on the right and fast forward on the left? But this was easy to change within the Preferences. Then I got sick of rewinding and changed it again to 1-click 5-second rewind, which was also easy to do. I'm not a fast typist, but I would estimate that my transcription speed is almost double what it was before using the pedal. I'm still debating whether to use tap-lock or not, but all of these features are easily configurable. The pedal itself is heavy, which is good because you are going to be banging your foot on it many times every time you use it. It is nicely contoured and easy to find the three different controls (left-center-right). I strongly recommend that you purchase this package rather than the pedal alone. This comes with ExpressScribe Pro, which is the pedal control software. The Pro version opens more types of files, which is reason enough to spend a few extra bucks. There are other differences you can read about on the vendor's web site. Find it in Australia on Google. Highly recommended for doing a great job right out of the box.

great software and pedal
i have used express scribe for years now, and it makes typing from digital audio file so much easier. The foot pedal makes it even easier then using the Function keys to control the audio, and miles ahead of pushing buttons on an external device. super easy to use and it also can tell you just where in the audio file you are so a typist can mark the time code for editor to check. I have had volunteers typing up recordings of Tlakaelel, a native Elder and this way, I can easily find the part of the recording they don't understand. great invention and great software!! I love all of NCH's software. I use some of their free software, but buy some too for enhanced versions, and because I want to support them. For example, you need the paid version of express scribe to use a footpedal. well worth it!!

Does the job.
I don't have much experience transcribing, so I don't have much to compare this too. However, I needed to transcribe a number of interviews for my dissertation, so I needed something the help. This pedal works really well in conjunction with the software. The software is a little odd to install and gives the impression of being one small step above malware, but it is not bad in the end and it works like a charm. I installed it on my two laptops and have been able to use the pedal easily with both of them. When you push the pedal, the recording goes back slightly so you can hear a word or two of what came before. For my typing speed and ability, that's just right. I was able to transcribe about 15 minutes of interview in one hour. I'm sure more accomplished typists could do much better. In any case, if you have to transcribe, this appears to be a very solid pedal/software package and it's worth the price if you have any amount of transcribing to do or if you have a high-impact project that has to get done.

Good Product. Works a treat!
The program is fairly intuitive to use. No complaints on the operation and functionality. The foot pedal works a like a charm. Oddly, by default, rewind is on the right and FF on the left but you can change that and other functions in the options menu. The down side is I had to disable my antivirus temporarily for the install (typical with NCH software). The CD install itself was a bit convoluted but I fumbled around and got it to register & install. Overall, it was money well spent.

Works perfectly, *DRASTICALLY* sped up my transcription! **BUY IT** :-)
Wow, was this ever a great purchase. I have a number of lengthy (~1 hour each) interviews to transcribe so I can write articles about them, and this pedal has increased my transcription throughput by at least a factor of 3 or 4. There are three pedals that you can program to have different functions within the ExpressScribe program; what worked best for me was to make the outside pedals jump 5 seconds back/forward and the center pedal control the playback. (Plays when pressed, stops playing when I release.) It took a little getting used to, to move my toe the right amount to tap the outside pedals without also hitting the center one, but I'm getting better, and right out of the box it was a huge help. (One suggestion: play with the distance of the pedal from your chair; getting it just right can make a big difference both to comfort and ease/accuracy of use.) One great benefit is that the app (I'm using a MacBook Pro) will run and respond properly to the pedal in the background, so you can type the transcript in an app of your choice. (You can also type into ExpressScribe itself, but I prefer being able to format subheads, italics, etc, which I don't think you can do in the app's own window.) Bottom line, I can't believe how much this has sped up the transcription, I feel like it paid for itself with the first hour of audio :-)
