The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing: Everything You Need to Know to Create & Sell Your Work

Good source of information for novel writing. I annotate and underline like crazy because every page has useful information. I love this source for my novel writing efforts. It's a good collection of practical and reliable information. Thanks to all these authors who were willing to share their good advice, good product.

This is a great book because it presents many points of view on the mechanics of novel writing. I bought it in paperback originally and then on Kindle because I was going on a trip. (The only problem with Kindle is that it refuses to allow multi-window view, so doing an exercise on your tablet from the book requires a whole lot of switching windows between your editor and your Kindle. Best to have two devices handy. -- Come on Amazon, it can't be THAT hard.) My problem is that I enjoy generating new material, hate copy-editing but can do it, but have no idea how to re-mold all my material into a larger book and no patience for the task. After floundering for several years, I find this book, along with some others (also reviewed), makes the once-overwhelming task into an exciting creative one. I used to be terrified that every change I make might entail a different book; now I am excited by that possibility. I now have three possible opening scenes and a way to understand the implications of each one. I bought this along with The Making of a Story: A Norton Guide to Creative Writing (not yet available on Kindle) which is a good thoughtful alternative view on novel writing with some debunking of the standard advice.

Look through and use each section as needed. You could get overwhelmed if you try to do all at once.

This resource may not be the end all be all, but it definitely carries its weight. Filled with insights from many authors and editors on every aspect of writing your novel from characters to story. If you are just venturing into writing a novel, this is a great place to start. If on the other hand you've read many books on the craft of writing, but looking for something that hits all the bases from a variety of sources to add that little bit of extra insight, these short chapters offer it in abundance. I wish this had been one of the first books I picked up on learning the craft, but the title scared me. How can one book contain everything I need to know? it has to be to good to be true, right? Read it and find out for yourself.

A nice collection of writing advice. Well worth the time it takes to read.

The Complete Handbook of Novel Writing I found this book very informative in the writing process. Each chapter is writing by a different writer and gives advice on crafting your book. But this book does not stop there in continues through to getting your book published. I loved those chapters as you received advice from writers and editors that understand the process. I chose this book on a whim in the bookstore. It appeared interesting and I have always been interested in the writer's process in crafting a novel. I am very glad I bought the book, as it definitely offered insights into the entire process from writing to publishing.

I bought this book two month ago. I is a bit thick for me to read, somehow it have a great content. At beginning this book shows how to write a novel, in the middle this book shows how to edit the novel that we wrote. In the end this book shows several interview so as a new writer like me, have a picture on what the writing world looks like. I enjoy reading this book. I hope I give beginners motivation and encouragement to buy and read this book.

I love this book. It was made by God for authors or maybe it was Writer’s Digest. If you’re a career author, this is a compass. Enjoy!

Very well crafted book with good information.

I like this book. Bought it primarily because of the interviews with some of the most known authors. Books give plenty of information and advice that need to be considered when writing a story. All in all it is a good source of information for the beginner like me.

Fabulous creative writing book.

Fascinating book, very useful

The book came printed upside down from the cover, and in reverse. So the index were the front pages, and the page numbers were backwards. So strange.
