Does this subwoofer have auto shut off or does it need to be turned on and off each time you use it?

It's manual on and off but if your receiver has switched outlets (which is common) you can plug the power cord into one of them and then this subwoofer will turn on and off with your receiver.

Is this a wooden box or plastic?

It's wood. Only drawback is you have to manually turn on and off. Doesn't activate automatically when receiver is turned on. Otherwise a great sounding unit for the money.

What"s the difference between the sw50 and sw100, except for 8" cone and 10" cone?

100 has slightly lower freq response 25 hz vs 28 hz
